🎨 African Artistic Discovery Program – “African Fabrics and Weavers” 🧵 Programme Eveil Artistique Africain
This year, our program invites children to explore the art of African textiles their textures, patterns, and stories.
Two partners will visit classrooms to introduce students to:
• Traditional Burkinabé fabrics
• Traditional weaving and dyeing techniques
• The symbolic meaning of patterns in African culture
Children will get the chance to touch the materials, observe the weavers’ tools, and understand how each piece of fabric tells a unique story.
🪡 A few wonders to discover:
• Faso Dan Fani, a woven cloth made from local cotton, where each pattern carries a special meaning.
• Kokodonda, a hand-dyed fabric crafted from different materials depending on the region.
• Bogolanfini (bogolan), a traditional fabric once reserved for specific garments with motifs that varied by gender and age now widely used in fashion and interior design.
✨ Exciting news!
All these fabrics will be showcased during the exhibition and auction to be held in the Culture Hall on March 12, 13, and 14, 2027, at the Liège Convention Center.
A unique opportunity to celebrate the artisans’ craftsmanship and the richness of African textile heritage!
