1.1 million official deaths. Estimates of 1.7 million deaths by COVID-19 in 10 months, with a second wave sweeping through Europe. This pandemic is clearly, like I predicted many months ago, one of the category moderate to severe. I expect this pandemic to possibly be the deadliest since the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918. I don't expect less than 2 - 3 million official deaths by the end of the pandemic, or up to 5 million deaths in total, caused by Sars-CoV2-infection itself, though the economic damage will cause a lot of deaths as well.

All data suggests we see now worldwide exponential growth of the epidemic. This is of course not the case in all countries, but it is in the worldwide total and this is the case in multiple countries across the globe. We're only days (max. 1-2 weeks) away from a true pandemic.

My opinion on the spread of COVID-19: We will likely face a moderate to severe pandemic in the next months. This virus, while in most cases only the cause of mild illness, has the potential to kill millions, especially those in risk of complications (the elderly, weaker people...).

It's reasonable to say now that containment of COVID-19 is impossible, with cases emerging in Afghanistan, Bahrein and Kuwait, as well as dozens of new cases in Italy, more than 800 confirmed cases in South Korea and possibly (even likely) a major outbreak in Iran. Most scientists agree this coronavirus now reached pandemic proportions and will spread further.

From now on I will give daily updates over the coronavirus outbreak. Today: HUGE community spread in South Korea, (likely) also in Iran, worrying outbreak in Northern Italy, "window of opportunity to prevent sars-cov2 from going pandemic narrowing"

Cases in the Asian country have surged past 340 after more than 140 new infections were reported on Saturday. Around half of the total cases are associated with a religious group in the south of the country.
