A Guide on Navigating Potential Endometriosis 💛

It took me over 10 years to receive a diagnosis and proper treatment for endometriosis. Along the way, I saw countless doctors - PCPs, OB-GYNs, GI specialists, endocrinologists, and even a rheumatologist. None of them listened, and many insinuated or flat-out told me to see a psychiatrist, implying that my symptoms were all in my head.

Medical gaslighting is real and it’s painful, but let me assure you, there are great doctors out there. I did have to fly out of state to find the right care, but when I finally did, my doctor listened from day one and validated all the pain and confusion I had been through.

No matter what, never stop advocating for yourself. You live in your body, no one else does.

Painful periods are not normal.
Swollen, inflamed ovaries and constant bloating are not typical.
Uncontrolled weight gain is not normal.
Recurring SIBO is not normal.
Excruciating pain radiating down your legs is not normal.

This is for the 1 in 10 women facing the challenges of endometriosis, and for those who won’t even realize for years that they are struggling with it. Keep fighting for the care and answers you deserve.

For many with endometriosis, back pain is a real and often overlooked symptom.

From dull aches to sharp, shooting pain, it can flare around your period, after sitting too long, during gut inflammation, or when your body is under stress.

So no - isn’t in your head. It’s your body asking for care. You deserve a care plan that looks at your whole body, not just your uterus.

Your joint pain might not be random. 💛

One of my first symptoms was terrible joint pain. I saw multiple doctors and a rheumatologist - and no answers. Until I learned I had endometriosis.

Endometriosis has been shown to share immune and inflammatory features with autoimmune diseases.

One study even found that women with endo had higher rates of autoimmune conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Sjögren’s syndrome (PMID: 40262193).

That achy, stiff, or swollen feeling, especially around your period or during flares, deserves to be taken seriously.

• Painful joints
• Fatigue
• Inflammation that travels
…may all be part of the picture when it comes to whole-body endo symptoms.

Does anything help your joint pain? ⬇️

When I think about Nashville, I’ll think about the bugs, the heat, the humidity, and the traffic.

…but what l’ll think about mostly is:

In November of 2022, this was the place that my fiance and I fell in love. It was the first place we truly became best friends.

That in February of 2023, my best friend would meet the love of her on a girls trip we had.

That one night, a girl would sit down across the table from me at a bar (that I didn’t even want to be at during the height of my endometriosis) who would go on to become my best friend that God knew I needed.

That I’d get to spend time with one of my friends I’d only known online and have fun catching up on our lives and making new memories.

That we’d meet friends at an event our first months here who we would go to Hawaii with and who would even officiate our wedding later this year.

That this would be the place where I learned I had endometriosis and where such healing would happen.

That we’d drive all over TN for pokemon card shows with our friends.

That I could spend so much time with the people I love, and even have them all in one place and shopping for my wedding dress(es).

That we’d meet amazing people who would have such a huge impact on our lives.

Nashville, thank you.
You were truly a place of such healing and transformation for me.

A growing body of research confirms what many patients have long experienced: if you have one autoimmune disease, you’re significantly more likely to develop another.

This phenomenon is called polyautoimmunity, and when three or more autoimmune diseases occur in the same individual, it’s referred to as Multiple Autoimmune Syndrome (MAS). In fact, up to 25% of people with one autoimmune condition will go on to develop additional ones, (PMID: 21977137).

Here’s why this happens:
• Shared genetic markers: Certain genes can predispose the immune system to attack its own tissues.
• Environmental triggers: Infections, toxins, and stress can spark or worsen autoimmune activity.
• Immune system dysregulation: One diagnosis may signal a larger breakdown in immune tolerance.
• Condition overlap: Some autoimmune diseases are frequently found together (e.g., Hashimoto’s + Celiac).

If you’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and are experiencing new or unexplained symptoms, it may be time to consider a broader picture. Multiple conditions can coexist and early recognition matters.

You deserve answers, and your symptoms are valid. 🫶
