We love seeing how therapists around the world use Orficast to support athletes at the highest level of competition, like this player from Wallaroos rugby! 🏉

“She came in with a mallet finger and a finger fracture, both common hand injuries in rugby. I used Orficast to create a custom splint. Its waterproof and soft properties make it perfect for an elite athlete, allowing her to keep playing sport while protecting her injury. With splinting and a rehab program, she has made great progress in recovery”, says her therapist Chen Li from Hand Therapy Experts

This little girl, who has congenital hemiparesis, has grown up knowing exactly how her splints help her. This one, for example, she wears during fine motor activities, both at school and at home, and she understands that it helps her develop a good pincer grasp.

"Working with children, having access to all these fun and colorful options makes a big difference. Sometimes they don’t even want to take the splint off because it’s just too cool! Watching her recreate her own therapy in play with her doll was a beautiful reminder of how deeply kids understand, and how their journeys can inspire the sweetest moments" says her therapist Júlia Pasquín

Recovery is a team sport 💪

In February 2025, hand, wrist and and elbow surgeon Diogo Rocha Carvalho performed surgical correction of Madelung’s deformity with an associated TFCC injury.

From day one, every decision in rehabilitation was made together – surgeon, hand therapist, and client – to ensure safety, comfort, and a smooth return to activity.

Hand therapist Fabiola Alvino Macêdo explains: “We started with immobilization in a Muenster orthosis made from Orfilight NS micro perfu 2.5. As recovery progressed, we introduced proprioceptive training with axial load at 4.5 months, supporting the client’s goal to return to both police duties and sports.

To enable safe, pain-free weight-bearing, we designed an orthosis from 3 mm black Orficast, similar to the “WristWidget®”, to support the radius and ulna during high-demand activities.”

This case is a perfect example of how close collaboration between surgeon and therapist can turn complex rehabilitation into a safe and successful return to action.

This 5-year-old boy suffered an elbow fracture and needed a splint that could keep up with his adventures (and his imagination).

His therapist Jorge Pozo Tamayo created a custom Spiderman-inspired splint using Orfit Colors NS that made him feel like a real hero 🕷️💥.

The result? A happy hero who never has to pause playtime. He can dive right back into action, even in the pool!

“When a child feels confident wearing their splint, adherence to treatment naturally improves,” his therapist shared.

fabricated this orthosis using 3 cm (1”) Orficast material. Her patient sustained P1 fractures of the ring and small fingers after a fall landing on her hand. Unfortunately, she developed PIP and DIP joint stiffness. This Static Progressive Orthosis provided the stretch needed to increase PROM of the joints, helping her regain functional use of her dominant hand.

Here’s why this design and material choice works so well - Orficast benefits:
✅Lightweight yet durable, provides strength without bulk ✅ Simple to work with when heated, molds perfectly to individual anatomy ✅Easy to modify and adjust as needed.

Design Features:
✔️Hook and loop strapping enables patient to adjust tension as tolerated
✔️Static progressive approach allows controlled, sustained stretch
✔️Low-profile design eliminates bulky, cumbersome options
✔️Targeted effective stretch to DIP and PIP joints

🎨 Art takes up a special place in our workplace. It’s not just decoration. It’s a reminder of why we do what we do. It honors our roots and inspires forward thinking.

One of our displayed pieces is Christine’s 3D printed hand with an Orficast orthosis around it. It’s a tribute to the previous generation of company leaders and to the innovation behind one of our signature products.

📍 Want to see it? It’s now on display at our office. Come by and experience the story behind the hand.

Hands-on training in Hanoi

Our distributor in Vietnam, Ad Medical Co Ltd, organized a dedicated two-day workshop for a Pediatric Hospital in Hanoi, focusing on pediatric splinting techniques. Participants practiced creating hand, wrist, and foot orthoses, even working on real patients as young as 9 months. We’re excited to see their growing interest and creativity in daily practice!
