I was recently invited to teach a Stop the Bleed class with my old fire department. In addition to the American College of Surgeons curriculum, we also covered introductory training in Mass Casualty, Triage, Rescue Taskforce, and Patient Movement. I started out my fire career in that room 17 years ago; it was fun to be back! Thanks for the invitation, Jefferson City VFD, and I hope you're able to implement these skills to save lives! Keep pushing your training!

Teaching a private Stop the Bleed class to a family who wanted to be more prepared to defend and protect life. They were a fun, engaging family to train with, eager to practice the hands-on skills to make a difference in someone’s life.

Training to cut access holes on a pitched roof for overhaul following a structure fire. It was this crew’s first time to train the tactic, and they did an awesome job safely accomplishing the objective.

If you want to make a tangible difference for your community, talk to your local volunteer fire department! Volunteer firefighters protect the vast majority of our country, responding every day and night for structural and wildland fires, vehicle accidents, medical and trauma emergencies, rope rescue, hazardous materials incidents, and more, all for their neighbors, the love of the job, and the camaraderie of their team.
