The Dangers of Oral S*x
(Femina Version) — According to Santé publique France, the mouth is a s*xual organ in its own right… and can be a vector of s*xually transmitted infections (STIs). Fabrice Campana, a dental surgeon in Marseille, explains.
Today, oral s*x is increasingly practiced, especially among young people who see it as a form of intimacy, without actually making love. During these oroge***al practices (fe****io, cu*******us, and ri***ng), the mouth is on the front line, therefore exposed to all the bacteria and viruses that are s*xually transmitted.
Whether it's the site of an injury, a cavity, an abscess, or mucogingival inflammation resulting from poor oral hygiene, it becomes a gateway for infectious agents to enter the bloodstream.
"Many people are unaware of this. Of course, the risk of infection is lower than during a**l or va**nal pe*******on, because the mucous membrane of the mouth is thicker and more resistant than that of the va**na or a**s. But it does exist,” explains Fabrice Campana.
“Furthermore, the mouth is not only a victim, it is also a vector,” he continues. “As such, beware of the early or poorly healed cold sore, which, from simple oral herpes, can develop into ge***al herpes in the partner during such practices! And if you are carrying an STI, it can be a gateway for infection and also contaminate the partner,” explains the practitioner.
