Tour du Burundi

Tour du Burundi 7 days, 100km/day, 49,000ft. Fun, sweat & tears in aid of life-changing work in Burundi! What? When? Who? How? Why? Get ready for the experience of a lifetime!

You already know the what and the why, but let’s get some of these other questions out of the way! The 2021 Tour is going to take place in the month of June, more specifically starting Sunday, May 18th, stretching over the next 7 days, covering 416 miles (670 km), climbing 49,000 ft of elevation and coming into contact with thousands and thousands of Burundians as we travel all across this tiny country. This year, our riders will be hailing from the UK, US, Canada, and Burundi! There are a small number of us living and working in-country, and we’ll be having the rest of our team fly in on May 14th to join us. We are businessmen, NGO country directors, medical professionals, police officers, students, fathers, brothers, sons! There are over 20 of us getting ready to throw our bikes in a box, board a plane and set off to Burundi this coming spring! Burundi is one of the poorest, hungriest, least developed, most densely populated in the world. That being said, the roads we will be navigating are outstanding! We will have a lead bus paving the way for us, and a trailing vehicle guarding our rear ends. We will be experiencing some of the most scenic and incredible riding possible, so we’ll have to try and keep our heads up when we’re slogging it up a mountain!

Day 7 — Ends with a pop! 🎉

What a journey. Over 700km cycled, 10000m climbed, and hearts full.

This year’s Tour du Burundi wasn’t just about the challenge, it was a declaration of hope.

A team of ordinary people doing something extraordinary to shine a light on Burundi and raise support for transformative work across the nation. 💪🚴‍♀️

A huge thank you to the cyclists who gave their all, the support crew who held it all together, every prayer warrior and every single donor who made this ride matter.

Together, you’ve helped raise over £100,000 for a cause that truly counts.

Day 6 – A True Blessing! ✨
Though our bodies are tired, our spirits are overflowing with joy and gratitude.

Today, we had the honour of visiting UCCD’s retirement home and witnessing firsthand how their 18 hectares of land have transformed hundreds of lives through sustainable development and care. 🌱🏡

We wrapped up the day with a cultural gem – a visit to the legendary . Truly, the best drummer in the world! 🥁🇧🇮

Today the Tour is in Ngozi where they will connect with our amazing Partner UCCD.

UCCD’s capacity for equipping leaders across the nation of Burundi is nothing short of outstanding! Their heart to bring the Gospel to the nation is infectious to anyone who has been with them at an outreach event. They also minister into some of the most challenging community environments and reach all ages - from children and youth programs to the very oldest.

One look at this picture speaks volumes - just look at those smiling faces! Whenever UCCD bring Jesus into a community, they match their message with very practical love.

Every penny/cent raised to bless partners like this is worth it! 🚴🏼‍♂️💥 Support.Share.Donate

🚴Day 3 – 70km to Ruyigi 🌄

Today was one of the smoothest and most enjoyable days of the tour so far. The cyclists covered 70 kilometres on a gentler route, surrounded by beautiful scenery. There was only one puncture, and everyone pushed through the distance with impressive energy and focus. 💪

They finished before 1 PM 🕐 and wrapped up the day with a relaxing sauna 🧖‍♂️ and a peaceful walk through Ruyigi town — a great chance to soak in the calm and beauty of the area. 😌

Spirits are high and the team is ready for the road ahead! 🔥

What a start! 🙌

An excellent first day, long and full of adventure! A few punctures and bits to fix 🔧, but the vibe was amazing 💥
A strong, supportive group with lots of laughs, even if the pace was a little slow at times 😅

Some teammates rested in the car due to injuries, but spirits are high and we’re feeling hopeful for the week ahead! 💪✨
