Tour du Burundi

Tour du Burundi 7 days, 100km/day, 49,000ft. Fun, sweat & tears in aid of life-changing work in Burundi! What? When? Who? How? Why? Get ready for the experience of a lifetime!

You already know the what and the why, but let’s get some of these other questions out of the way! The 2021 Tour is going to take place in the month of June, more specifically starting Sunday, May 18th, stretching over the next 7 days, covering 416 miles (670 km), climbing 49,000 ft of elevation and coming into contact with thousands and thousands of Burundians as we travel all across this tiny country. This year, our riders will be hailing from the UK, US, Canada, and Burundi! There are a small number of us living and working in-country, and we’ll be having the rest of our team fly in on May 14th to join us. We are businessmen, NGO country directors, medical professionals, police officers, students, fathers, brothers, sons! There are over 20 of us getting ready to throw our bikes in a box, board a plane and set off to Burundi this coming spring! Burundi is one of the poorest, hungriest, least developed, most densely populated in the world. That being said, the roads we will be navigating are outstanding! We will have a lead bus paving the way for us, and a trailing vehicle guarding our rear ends. We will be experiencing some of the most scenic and incredible riding possible, so we’ll have to try and keep our heads up when we’re slogging it up a mountain!

May you have a truly blessed year in 2026!

In the hills of Muzinda, two dedicated Scripture Union volunteers, Ernest Ndayizeye and Jean de Dieu Sabushimike, continue serving God with unwavering passion, despite the challenges of daily life.

The roads are long, and with the fuel shortages, transport is often unreliable, so their ministry in distant churches and schools can be difficult. Yet Ernest and Jean de Dieu refuse to let obstacles hinder their calling… So they bought a bicycle. 🚲

This simple purchase has become a powerful tool for outreach, allowing them to reach those distant places with all their teaching materials and children’s ministry books, too. Their commitment is founded in Scripture Union’s ongoing support for leadership development that equips volunteers to serve with vision and love.

Their bicycle is more than transport; it is a symbol of determination, sacrifice, and the Gospel on the move… something to remember on our next in 2026

If you love cycling, you may have been following the recent UCI World Championships in Rwanda... such incredible athletes. And it got us to thinking... You too can enjoy the wonderful African scenery, but instead of high performance, you can be raising awareness (and much-needed finances) for the wonderful GLO Partners!

Day 7 — Ends with a pop! 🎉

What a journey. Over 700km cycled, 10000m climbed, and hearts full.

This year’s Tour du Burundi wasn’t just about the challenge, it was a declaration of hope.

A team of ordinary people doing something extraordinary to shine a light on Burundi and raise support for transformative work across the nation. 💪🚴‍♀️

A huge thank you to the cyclists who gave their all, the support crew who held it all together, every prayer warrior and every single donor who made this ride matter.

Together, you’ve helped raise over £100,000 for a cause that truly counts.

Day 6 – A True Blessing! ✨
Though our bodies are tired, our spirits are overflowing with joy and gratitude.

Today, we had the honour of visiting UCCD’s retirement home and witnessing firsthand how their 18 hectares of land have transformed hundreds of lives through sustainable development and care. 🌱🏡

We wrapped up the day with a cultural gem – a visit to the legendary . Truly, the best drummer in the world! 🥁🇧🇮

Today the Tour is in Ngozi where they will connect with our amazing Partner UCCD.

UCCD’s capacity for equipping leaders across the nation of Burundi is nothing short of outstanding! Their heart to bring the Gospel to the nation is infectious to anyone who has been with them at an outreach event. They also minister into some of the most challenging community environments and reach all ages - from children and youth programs to the very oldest.

One look at this picture speaks volumes - just look at those smiling faces! Whenever UCCD bring Jesus into a community, they match their message with very practical love.

Every penny/cent raised to bless partners like this is worth it! 🚴🏼‍♂️💥 Support.Share.Donate
