We all have a story. A story that likely molded, changed, or even broke us. As a child, before I knew much, I knew that I experienced a lot of shame. Shame that was steeped in my family life. I learned early that no matter what I felt on the inside good or bad, it was safer to maintain a mask for the outside world. Feelings were not to be acknowledged or felt. You got on with it by keeping it together, dressing well, and maintaining your composure at all times. The old adage “what happens in this house, stays in this house” was truly our way of life. In retrospect, I can see that this adage is what keeps many families in Bermuda stuck and sometimes sick. Pushing through regardless of your mental state was what we did best.
Hello folks, it’s Dayla. This space has been quiet but I’m so happy to be back with more information, resources and storytelling that helps this community feel more connected.
The above excerpt is from our June Newsletter where we introduced our Awareness campaign. “You’re not alone”. I’m so excited to share over the next few weeks what I’ve been up to!
This campaign is dedicated to any woman, man, boy or girl who has felt alone in their journey and hidden parts of who they are because of it. We all have a story that has the power to connect us like a thread. Making the community we belong to stronger than ever. 🇧🇲 I hope this campaign serves as a reminder.
You’re Never Alone! 🧡
