Like many of us, I lead a busy life and never thought that menopause would actually catch up with me! From mood swings, weight gain, brain fog, which I considered ‘normal’ side effects of a demanding job, I suddenly found myself depressed and dealing with serious mental and hormonal issues. My intense research led me to the world of Functional Medicine, a holistic approach firmly grounded in scien

tific evidence, and my life took a very different turn. From an interest in understanding what was going on with me, I became fascinated with the science of nutrition and its complex role in our bodies and minds, and decided to change my career to become a Nutritional Therapist with the hope that I could help others to overcome this tough transition.

Dear Woman,

In the midst of life’s demands, remember this: taking care of yourself is not a luxury—it’s essential. You are the backbone of so many lives, but your wellbeing is the foundation on which everything else rests. Self-compassion isn’t selfish; it’s a necessary act of kindness that replenishes your spirit and restores balance.

When you feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or guilty for saying no, remember: it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to set boundaries. It’s okay to put yourself first. Self-compassion means acknowledging your needs, showing yourself the same kindness you’d offer a friend, and embracing your imperfections with grace.

Practicing self-compassion helps to modulate the stress response and lower cortisol levels, supporting your emotional, physical, and hormonal wellbeing during menopause. There you go my midweek easy-peasy, anti-inflammatory fish dish! Packed with flavor, not fuss—perfect for keeping dinner light and bright!

Ingredients ⤵️

1 medium red onion
1 medium pepper (any colour)
5 salad potatoes, cut into small cubes
A handful of Kalamata olives
2 tbsps capers
200g cherry tomatoes
Chilli flakes
500g or 2 fillets of cod
Olive oil
Basil

Method ⤵️

Heat the oven to 200C.
In a Dutch pan, place the onion and pepper and tomatoes in layers.
Brush the fish with sea salt and black pepper or chilli flakes and place it on top of the layers.
Add the olives, capers and scatter the potatoes around, and a good dollop of olive oil
Cover with the lid and take to the oven for 20 minutes.
Take it out and place the rest of cherry tomatoes on top of the fish and take back for another 5 minutes.

Courgette & butter bean salad
I love this super simple, easy to put together side salad 😋
Just a few ingredients and it goes very well with anything 💚
Courgette is rich in vitamin A, beans are a great source of protein, and both full of fibre making it super nutritious as well as delicious 🥗

Ingredients
2 courgettes sliced lengthways
1 tin of butter beans
1 tbsp of capers
1 tbsp of pine nuts
1 garlic clove - finely chopped
Juice of half lemon
Chilli flakes to taste
Oregano or thyme
Olive oil
Salt
🥒
Method
Grill the courgette slices in a hot frying pan and reserve - I don’t use any oil at all. If the pan is hot enough and the slices thin, it will take about 1 min or 2 to grill it each side.
In a small frying pan, add the pinenuts and toast it until browned and reserve - it will toast in no time so don’t take your eyes off it!
In a bowl mix all the ingredients. Season well and enjoy 😊
