Although Bill Gates and Steve Jobs started microdosing as an underground trend in Silicon Valley, it spread to other locations and workplaces.

Hofmann microdosed for the last 20 years of his life, living to the age of 102. He said that consuming small amounts of the psychedelic helped to clarify his thinking.

Dr. James Fadiman suggests that what drives people to microdose is the same impulse that leads individuals to use Adderall or Ritalin to get a competitive advantage. Although official microdosing clinical research efforts are few, Fadiman carries out research by collecting the anecdotal reports of those who self-administer.

People in finance, business intelligence, and even scientists are reaching out for advice about incorporating microdosing into their daily routine.

For many people, their primary fear doesn’t involve the psychedelics they choose to use.

As one regular microdoser from Berlin puts it, microdosing has become part of their life, almost like a “cup of coffee.

Microdosing is finally getting its first well-deserved moment in the public’s consciousness.

When you consume a small number of truffles, the plant based medicine isn’t enough to get you high.

The result is a feeling of general mindfulness.

People often feel more focused and creative when microdosing, which typically involves taking between 0.50 - 1 gram of truffles a few days per week.

Doing Shrooms Alone: Solo Tripping on Psychedelics
Doing shrooms alone offers a great experience, but many don’t know the right way to navigate this path.

To start with, you need to know that there is no one true way to get a psychedelic experience. You might want to associate shrooms with a social or fun experience. People also associate it with a journey under the supervision of a guide, spiritual group, or community.

But do you need to be part of any group for this? There are risks associated with doing shrooms alone. However, psychonauts take psychedelics or shrooms alone due to the need to explore different consciousness without emotional or social input.

Should You Do Shrooms Alone?
According to Chaia Moon, doing shrooms alone requires some deep thinking. Chaia Moon is a mindset and integration consultant that helps people through psychedelic journeys. People thinking of exploring consciousness tend to ask questions like: What will I gain from a solo trip? How do I ground myself during this journey?

Moments You Shouldn’t Do Shrooms Alone
The recommendations for people going through a rough life phase are different. Examples of these life phases include losing a loved one, becoming a parent, divorce, or marriage. Such people are advised to wait for up to 90 days before taking a psychedelic. This is primarily because your senses are at their peak at this time. Therefore, it’s best to let the body settle down and regulate anything.

Tripping during a crisis increases the risk of unwanted experiences that will only destabilize you. When in crisis, the best thing to do is to seek help from a support group or consult a psychedelic guide. That way, you’ll be able to get to a more settled mind state quickly.

For people with a history of addiction, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, it’s best to have support for the journey. These disorders don’t prevent one from tripping alone, but it’s best to do this in a healthy state of mind.

Always check with your doctor before tripping alone, especially if you’re on any prescription medicine. That way, you can avoid potential interactions or contraindications.

Types of Breathwork

After discovering that breathwork is a handy healing tool, I devoted time to learning different techniques.
Pranayama

You’ll be familiar with this breathing exercise if you’ve done yoga before. It’s a popular breathing exercise that people together with different yoga poses. Pranayama helps people build up self-awareness which in turn boosts confidence. It also allows people to overcome energy and emotional blocks, both of which hinder life force.

Holotropic Breathwork

The aim of holotropic breathwork sessions is to attain an altered state of consciousness through breathing. Eventually, a person will start to feel wholeness between the mind, spirit, and body.

Rebirthing

The aim of this breathwork is to free up blocked energies from trauma. It brings about a certain type of emotional release. The breathwork supports the principle that everyone has suffered trauma, and it’s stored within the body. It then manifests are stress and anxiety, but the breathwork technique help to release the stored energy.

Wim Hof Method

This is a combination of cold therapy and breathwork. It’s an intense type of breathwork exercise, and it can be said to be a form of hyperventilation. Wim Hof’s method has a unique way of creating a rush of confidence and energy for improved wellbeing.

How Breathwork Works in the Body

Breathing is usually shallow in a stressful situation, and it stimulates the activation of different stress hormones, including cortisol. Following the release of these hormones, the body starts to prepare for flight or fight. Blood pressure and heart rate also begin to increase, but you can quickly arrest the situation with breathwork.

Breathwork makes it easy for people to trick the body into thinking things are not as intense. It brings about steady blood pressure and heart rate and an overall state of calmness.

Another mechanism that breathwork utilizes is an increase in the oxygen level in the blood. This makes it easier for blood to reach organs, muscles, and the brain. An exciting thing about breathwork is that you can practice it anytime and anywhere.

What Exactly is Breathwork?
As the name suggests, this is a deliberate and controlled way of breathing. It can only involve taking deep breaths and regular intervals at its very basic level.

How did it come to being? Its roots can be traced back to the Pranayama concept in yoga. There are different types of breathing exercises, but it basically comprises a conscious change in how you breathe. The fantastic thing about the exercise is that it’s a powerful and reliable tool that can facilitate transformation and healing.

Benefits of Breathwork
There’s so much ongoing research to show the benefits, and here are some of the benefits.

Instant Relief from Stress
This type of exercise is a quick way to combat the stress from our daily living. One of the studies in the journal Frontiers in Psychology gave promising results.
Cortisol is a steroid hormone responsible for our stress response. High cortisol levels can lead to chronic inflammation in the body.

Lowers Blood Pressure
According to a 2001 study, breathwork is an effective nonpharmacological treatment for high blood pressure. Another 2015 study also gave evidence to support this claim further. Today, there’s an FDA tool for people to build slower to help them reduce their blood pressure.

Improves Symptoms of Depression
It’s a handy tool for people who don’t respond well to antidepressants. The reason why it is effective is that it reduces the size of the amygdala, the part responsible for fight-or-flight responses. This, in turn, increases complex thinking in the prefrontal cortex.

Initiates Sharper Focus
Breathwork creates a balance in natural chemical messengers and noradrenaline. Both substances have an effect on specific emotions and attention, thereby enhancing focus.

Pain Management
There are several studies that show that deep breathing can help reduce chronic pain perception. These studies also suggest that patients can endure physical discomfort easier with deep breathing.

Microdosing’s Micromoment Consuming crumb-size amounts of psychedelics — not to get high but to feel more focused and creative and present — has moved a tiny bit mainstream.

Microdosing, which usually means taking tiny amounts of psychedelics (one-20th to one-tenth of a recreational dose) has spread from San Francisco to New York and around the country. People say they are using it not to escape their everyday lives but to enhance them: If you’re microdosing, you might even forget you’re doing drugs in the first place. The amounts are sub-perceptual, without the seeing-stuff side effects. They’re still themselves, users say, only a little better.

Yet the curiosity only grows, in part because of renewed interest in the potential therapeutic benefits of psychedelics taken in traditional doses. In Michael Pollan’s new book on the subject, How to Change Your Mind, out in May, he goes deep on the science from professionally guided, federally approved studies that looked at the effects of psilocybin (that’s the psychoactive part of mushrooms) on cancer patients in significantly lessening signs of anxiety and depression.

What Is Microdosing?

Microdosing uses dose administration levels that are so low that they are unlikely to produce a whole-body effect.

If someone were to use this technique with prescription medication, it would be considered sub-therapeutic.

The term itself breaks down the process. “Micro” means “small,” and “dose” refers to the quantity taken.

That means microdosing is the practice of taking exceptionally small doses of psychedelics such as MicrodoseBros truffles to access the benefits of psilocybine without getting high.

That means when you look at microdosing magic truffles, the result you’re after offers the positive aspects of using the product without the potential adverse side effects of a larger dose.

The goal of microdosing is to boost physical energy, improve creativity, and attain a greater emotional balance.

Some people achieve an increased performance on tasks that require problem-solving skills with this technique.

Microdosing could also be effective as a treatment option in some cases for addiction, depression, better focus and anxiety.

The standard dosing regimen for someone trying microdosing with psilocybin is approximately 1/20th of what the total amount would be.

That means you’re taking about 2% of the magic truffles that a person uses to get the full effect of the substance.

Instead of using magic truffles for a one-off trip, microdosing is more about adding an element to your weekly routine.

It’s like drinking a cup of coffee in the morning to let the caffeine get you going, but it has enough strength to last for two or three days instead of a few hours.

The goal is to experience mild effects. Many people enjoy a sub-perceptual response, eliciting changes that deliver energy instead of knocking you out for the day.

That means microdosing truffles is a hormesis application.

What does this all mean?
In conclusion, microdoses appear to be much safer than psychedelic macrodoses, and since they do not involve an intense, mystical experience, are more suitable for daily use as a ‘supplement’ to enhance cognition and functioning while going about one’s day. Compared to current stimulant medications, psychedelic microdoses appear to be safer and associated with less unwanted effects, and might be at least as effective in reducing ADHD symptoms.

Untapped capacity for Healing
It is clear that these drugs have a great potential for therapeutic use and specifically for ADHD, and should definitely be explored in further research. These powerful substances have a yet untapped capacity for healing, and in my opinion, this power should be harnessed and used to enhance not only the quality of life of ADHD or other patients, but of everyone who needs it.

Nevertheless, no firm conclusions about the clinical usefulness of psychedelics can be made at this time, as research is still in its infancy and rigorous experimental studies in patient populations are lacking. All of the results mentioned here need to be backed-up by more controlled clinical trials to establish more reliable relationships between psychedelics and ADHD.

Limitations of microdosing studies and suggestions for further research
It is also important to mention that many of the studies already conducted on microdosing have methodological limitations that make it difficult to interpret the results. For example, most of the evidence relies on self-reports and questionnaires, meaning that the truthfulness and accuracy of these reports cannot be measured.

Scientific research:

The Effects of Microdosing on ADHD

Some anecdotal evidence points to the usefulness of psychedelics in treating attention deficit disorder but is not yet confirmed by placebo-controlled experimental trials. Nevertheless, these studies do point to a possible beneficial effect of psychedelics on ADHD patients.

Studies in Healthy Volunteers

It is quite well-known that microdosing psychedelics can be helpful with productivity, attention, creativity, and learning, and has been used by silicon-valley professionals to boost their performance at work.

Research into microdosing in healthy volunteers also finds that psychedelics are associated with improvements in cognition, attention and focus.

Participants observed a decrease in mind wandering and distractibility, and saw improvements in processing and expressing their emotions, thus improving mental health.

Psychedelics superior to stimulant meds?
A research study done by the Marine Corps for the search of new performance-enhancing drugs concluded that psychedelic microdoses might be superior to ADHD medications for cognition enhancement, and do not produce as many negative effects.

Studies in ADHD patients

Nevertheless, many people diagnosed with ADHD share their positive experiences with microdosing online, and this data also reveals the potential use of psychedelics in treating this disorder.

Less Side Effects

The researchers found a sub-group of participants who microdosed specifically to relieve their ADHD symptoms, and those participants reported improvements after microdosing, with less side effects compared to stimulants.

No Crash After Dose Wears Out

The authors of the paper argued that this might be due to the lack of unwanted effect connected to microdosing – these do not produce a ‘crash’ after their effect has worn off and do not require daily dosing, like stimulants do, which might act to further decrease any instances of side effects.
