Traditionally when children are faced with mental health or behavioural challenges, parents consult with a paediatrician, psychologist, play therapist, counsellor or psychiatrist.

Sometimes drastic medical-based measures are required when dealing with trauma, brain development issues or when a child is engaging in harmful high risk behaviour.

However when this happens there is a risk of a child feeling there is something “wrong” with them. They may feel judged or fall into victim mode which thrives on blaming and shaming.

At The Kids Life Studio our approach is to focus only on current circumstances and focus forward. We look for solutions to everyday challenges.

Our play based approach is “strengths based” with no stigma! Children love sharing time with us because they thrive on our positive approach!

REMOVING PRESSURE AND CREATING POSITIVITY

Our play based Kids Life Coaching model offers a structured approach based on neuroscience that shapes a child’s brain to make good choices in life.

This means that in between our personalised coaching sessions, we give children “homework”. This includes activities to do in the morning and just before bedtime.

Traditionally homework has a negative connotation and is associated with school. We don’t want to add pressure!

So to keep children positive, we get their buy-in by explaining that their effort will have a personal payoff!

Our global team of Kids Life Coaches inspire children by sending them on “home based adventures” that include lots of fun activities that build healthy hearts, bodies and minds!

Life should be seen as an exciting adventure!! What better way to coach children to embrace that philosophy!!

Life Coaching for children is gaining great traction. Since 2003 we have been working towards regulating and raising the standards.

As the leader in Kids Life Coach Certifications we ensure that all of our coaches know how to assess a child and identify red flags for mental health issues.

Why?

Well, currently there are many damaging and unethical practices where “professionals” overstep the boundaries between coaching and therapy.

Our global team works shoulder to shoulder with paediatricians, psychiatrists and psychologists. Our assessment tool categorises children in one of three categories:

💥Psychological

Once we have identified the child’s need, we can either enrol the child in an individual or group coaching programme or refer them for therapy. We also work closely with schools in offering an additional layer of support.

MEASURABLE AND TARGETED OUTCOMES

The parents who approach us to coach their children usually do so for 3 reasons:

1. They see the value of preventive coaching to lay the foundation for their child to make good choices BEFORE things go wrong.

2. Their child has experienced a setback or challenge and they want them to move through the obstacle with a toolkit for the future.

3. A “problem” has been identified by a teacher or is being dealt with by a therapist and there is a need for an additional layer of intervention that is practical and future focused.

No matter the reason why a parent approaches one of our global team of coaches they want to see positive results.

So we make it our priority to assess the child (refer back to our 4th post in this series) and to tailor make goals so that we can measure and track results.

TAILOR MAKING OUR COACHING TO MEET EACH CHILD’S UNIQUE NEEDS

We have an online lifestyle assessment that asks parents 250 comprehensive questions to gauge where their child’s life may be out of balance in 10 areas.

We look at everything that may impact on a child’s mood, behaviour and attitude. Such as family dynamics, eating patterns, sleeping, school, stress, confidence.

We are then also able to alert the parent to any red flags for depression or mental health issues. This is important because we believe “prevention is better than cure”.

Our global team of coaches then use our play based Kids Life Coaching model by setting unique goals to strengthen any areas that may need support.

After our initial coaching programme, we ask parents to do a post assessment so that we can track and measure success.

We believe every child deserves a plan that isn’t just a “hit and miss”. We have a system that works and it has been proven!

BEING PROACTIVE RATHER THAN REACTIVE

We have identified that the traditional "system" targets problems and intervention is usually after things have gone wrong.

At The Kids Life Studio, our approach is to focus on preventative skills BEFORE things "go wrong" or a child spirals out of control. Why wait until it is too late and it takes more resources and targeted interventions to get results.

We coach young people of all ages, but we specialise and target children before the age of 12. This is because they are more malleable and open to change. Their beliefs are not yet deeply embedded and skills transfer is quick and effective. We get results in as little as two weeks!
