Gingivectomy is a medical term that means removal of gingival (dental gum) tissue. Some patients have what is referred to as Incomplete Passive Eruption, where excess gingival tissue covers the teeth, making them appear much smaller (shorter) than they actually are. As you can see with this 32 year-old patient, when a Gingivectomy is appropriate, it can have an absolutely transformative effect on a patient’s smile.

Sometimes teeth don’t erupt on their own. Orthodontists, in collaboration with periodontists/oral surgeons, provide the treatment necessary to cause the eruption of these teeth. This is why parents should have their children visit dentists at an early age to rule out such problems and, where they exist, pursue interventional orthodontic treatment in a timely manner.

Parents, if your child is retaining their primary (baby) teeth too long, please visit a pediatric dentist or orthodontist to check whether treatment is needed.

Here is a 16-year-old patient of ours from Hope Town, Abaco who recently had her braces removed after having two (2) bicuspids extracted to correct severe upper arch crowding.

Today Samara, who just got recognized as a stellar member of the Sandals Royal Bahamian staff, got her upper braces off! She started with lots of upper incisor protrusion, but after receiving special orthodontic wires her teeth look so good they almost seem unreal!
