🤒 My kiddo tested positive for the flu… now what?

Take a deep breath — most kids recover well with supportive care 💙

Here’s what to do at home:

🛌 Rest
Let your child sleep as much as they need. Their body is fighting a virus.

💧 Fluids, fluids, fluids
Water, Pedialyte, broth, popsicles — small, frequent sips are key.

🌡️ Fever & aches
Use acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed for fever and body aches.
❌ No aspirin in kids.

😷 Reduce spread
Keep your child home, encourage hand washing, and avoid close contact with others.

🍲 Food
Don’t worry if appetite is low. Hydration matters more than solid food at first.

💊 Antivirals (like Tamiflu)
May be helpful if started within 48 hours, especially for younger kids or those with chronic conditions. Ask your Peds if it’s a good option for you.

🚨 Call your doctor or seek care if you notice:

• Trouble breathing or fast breathing
• Blue lips or face
• Severe lethargy or difficulty waking
• Dehydration (dry mouth, no tears, not peeing)
• Fever lasting >5 days or worsening symptoms
• Any concern — trust your instinct.

We are here for you.

We’re seeing a rise in flu cases, particularly in children. With so many viral illnesses circulating, parents often ask when flu testing is needed.

🧐🤧When should my child be tested?

Flu testing may be recommended if your child has:
• A sudden fever
• Cough, sore throat, or runny nose
• Body aches, headache, or chills
• Marked tiredness or low energy
• Vomiting or diarrhea (this can happen in children)

👉 Timing matters:
Flu tests are most helpful within the first 24–48 hours after symptoms begin. Early testing can help.

🤧We’re here to help keep your family healthy this flu season.

This is a myth. 🤱

Good news: for ONE standard drink, you usually don’t need to dump your milk.

🍷Current guidance from health experts (including the CDC, AAP, and Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine) shows that occasional, mild alcohol intake is generally safe when planned around breastfeeding. Breastfeed your baby before you sip, then wait about 2-3 hours per drink before the next nursing. This allows your body time to clear the alcohol, and as your blood alcohol level falls, your breast milk alcohol level falls too.

🍷Importantly, pumping and dumping removes milk — Not ALCOHOL — and it does not speed alcohol clearance. Alcohol leaves breast milk the same way it leaves your bloodstream: with time, not pumping.

👶 For newborns: the same principles apply, but extra caution is advised due to frequent feeding and immature metabolism. Feed just before the drink, allow 3 hours before the next feed when possible, or even better, use previously expressed milk.

Avoid alcohol entirely if feeds are unpredictable or clustered ****

🍷Bottom line: You can enjoy ONE standard celebratory drink without sacrificing your breastfeeding journey. Keep it to one standard drink, plan your feeds, and make sure you feel well enough to safely care for your baby. There’s no need to waste that “liquid gold” — with moderation and a little planning, you and your baby can enjoy a safe, happy holiday season. 🎄

🌸 Today this little diva showed just how brave she really is.
She got her shots like a champ — a tiny tear, a big cuddle, and then right back to serving all the cuteness and attitude. 💕
