19/03/2025

Infant mortality remains a pressing health concern in Bhutan, particularly neonatal deaths, which account for nearly 70% of all infant fatalities. Neonatal deaths are those that occur in the first month of the baby’s life after birth.

Almost 70% of infant deaths in Bhutan are contributed by the neonatal deaths.”

The leading causes of neonatal deaths in Bhutan include prematurity-related complications, neonatal sepsis, and congenital anomalies. In the post-neonatal period, conditions like pneumonia and other infections continue to claim the lives of many infants.
Ministry of Health in partnership with NMS and KGUMSB, is offering in-service training on Neonatal Basic Life Support (NBLS) and Advanced Life Support (NALS) to health care providers involved in deliveries and post delivery neonatal care to combat birth asphyxia—one of the leading causes of neonatal deaths.
This crucial training for the health workers of Gidakom hospital was conducted by Dr. Chimi Dema, Mrs. Tshewang Dema, Mr. Chimi Thinley and Mr. Laxmi Prasad Dahal for two days.
With this training, we hope to contribute in reducing the infant mortality rate in our country.

Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) such as High blood pressure, Diabetes, Heart diseases, Respiratory diseases and Cancers ...
12/11/2024

Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) such as High blood pressure, Diabetes, Heart diseases, Respiratory diseases and Cancers are the leading cause of deaths and disabilities in the world with 41 million deaths annually which is more than 113,000 deaths daily.
NCD causes kidney failure, stroke, blindness, paralysis or leg amputations, etc.. and leads to economic burden to the nation and individual level. NCDs are preventable with timely check ups and interventions.
The Ministry of health is organizing a nationwide NCD screening program to assess the risks at individuals level and initiate interventions such as lifestyle modification, dietary restrictions and medications to prevent premature death and disabilities. So we expect all the eligible population to come forward and get screened. Please go to your nearest screening center where ever available at your convenience of place and time: ( 14/11/2024 to 07/12/2024 from 9:00AM - 5PM ).

Eligible population for screening:

1) Age: 18 and above with no history of diabetes, hypertension or on medication for any of the above diseases.

2) You should come without eating or drinking anything except water for at least 8 hours if you are
a) age 40 and above
b) overweight or obese (BMI>25)
c) if you have a history of diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes)
c) if your first degree relatives (parents or siblings) have diabetes

3) Elderly population above the age of 65 NEED NOT HAVE TO COME if they have already been screened during the October month elderly care program.

"This program will cost millions for now but it will save billions of our nation's resources even if we can prevent 100 people from kidney failure and stroke with this screening"

Goodluck!

For Mewang Gewog, please know the places of screening with dates as mentioned below.
