6.Why a Patient Should Not Have More Than One UHID
A patient should not have more than one UHID (Unique Health Identification Number) because:
1. Uniqueness of Identity The purpose of a UHID is to provide each patient with a single, unique identity across the hospital or health system. If a patient has multiple UHIDs, their medical records will be scattered, making it difficult to obtain a complete health history.
2. Continuity of Care Doctors need to see the full medical history, including past illnesses, treatments, allergies, and medications. Multiple UHIDs lead to fragmented records, which can result in missing or duplicated information.
3. Patient Safety There is a risk of incorrect treatment, misdiagnosis, or missed allergies if a doctor only sees part of a patient’s data. Duplicate UHIDs can also cause errors in prescriptions, lab tests, or procedures.
4. Administrative Efficiency Duplicate UHIDs waste resources, as hospital staff may need to merge or clean records later.
Note: Please refrain from creating multiple UHIDs. Always use a single one.
Q1. What to Do if You Have Two UHIDs?
If you currently have two UHIDs, please visit any receptionist counter at JDWNRH or contact me directly. I can help you merge your UHIDs into a single one.
Please share this information widely. Since the EPIS system is new to our health services, many people may not be aware of the importance of having only one UHID.
