The African Disability Forum (ADF), alongside a strong delegation of its member Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) including United Disabled Persons of Kenya -UDPK and supported by partners including International Disability Alliance, GIZ,German International Cooperation and Disability Rights Fund, is engaging at the 87th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) in Banjul, The Gambia.
Building on the historic observer status granted to ADF by the African Commission in 2025, this engagement marks another important milestone in strengthening disability-inclusive advocacy and ensuring that the voices of persons with disabilities are meaningfully represented within regional human rights processes.
Throughout the session, ADF and its members will champion:
1. Increased member state accountability through state reporting
2. Greater participation of OPDs, particularly women and youth with disabilities, within ACHPR mechanisms
3. Stronger disability-inclusive human rights recommendations and policy engagement across Africa
4. Continental ratification of African Disability Protocol
Through alternative reporting, strategic bilateral engagements, oral statements, and in-person participation of OPD representatives, ADF continues to shape regional discourse and advance the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across the continent.
This is more than participation. It is influence, representation, and collective action towards an inclusive Africa where no one is left behind.
