Viva Organica x BUAN 🌱🔬

We’re excited to officially share that Viva Organica is in an ongoing research partnership with Botswana University of Agriculture & Natural Resources (BUAN).

This is to support research driven work and scientific validation of our organic inputs, because we believe farmer results should be backed by data, not just testimonials.

Last year, we supported 5 final year BSc Agriculture (Agronomy) students to run comparative trials on our organic fertilizers, BioBrew (liquid) and Vermogro (granular), at different dosages, against control treatments and inorganic fertilizers.

The trials covered key crops including green pepper,soy bean, safflower, sugar bean and maize, selected for local and regional relevance.

We’re proud to share that all 5 students successfully completed their projects, passed with distinctions, and graduated in October 2025 🎓✨

Key takeaways from the studies:

1. BioBrew, at a higher dose matched to urea, outperformed urea plots in maize biomass and safflower growth.

2. Overall improved crop growth under BioBrew and Vermogro, including better plant height and fruit set.

3. Application rates matter, too much vermicompost can temporarily shift soil pH and affect nutrient availability, that is why it is important to follow recommended dose.

Despite heavy rains that forced some students to restart their trials, they persevered and delivered strong work. We’re now looking forward to the next cohort, including new trials on pearl millet and safflower.

We’ll be sharing more insights from this collaboration as the research continues 💚🌾
