🧠 DEMENTIA IS REAL — AND IT CAN HAPPEN IN OUR HOMES
Sometimes we laugh, get angry, or even blame people…
But many of the things we see in elderly people are actually signs of dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease).
🚩 Real situations that can happen in dementia:
1️⃣ Repeating the same question
“Where are we going?” …then asking again after 2 minutes… and again… and again.
2️⃣ Getting lost in familiar places
Going to a shop they’ve visited for 20 years… then suddenly not finding the way home.
3️⃣ Forgetting they already ate
Eating breakfast, then saying 30 minutes later:
“No one fed me today.”
4️⃣ Accusing family members of stealing
Misplacing money or a phone and saying:
“You stole it!”
(when they actually hid it and forgot.)
5️⃣ Leaving the stove on
Starting to cook, walking away, forgetting completely — risking fire.
6️⃣ Mixing up names of close people
Calling their daughter by their sister’s name, or mistaking a grandchild for someone else.
7️⃣ Wearing the wrong clothes
Wearing a jacket in hot weather, underwear on top of clothes, or shoes on the wrong feet.
8️⃣ Struggling with simple tasks
Things they used to do easily become hard, like:
using a phone, sending WhatsApp, using a remote, paying for groceries.
9️⃣ Mood and personality changes
A calm person may become angry, suspicious, emotional, rude, or aggressive.
🔟 Forgetting important events
Forgetting a funeral they attended, visitors from yesterday, or that someone close has passed away.
1️⃣1️⃣ Confusing day and night
Sleeping during the day and walking around the house at night.
1️⃣2️⃣ Poor judgement
Giving strangers money or falling for scams easily.
1️⃣3️⃣ Wandering
Leaving the house and walking far away without telling anyone.
1️⃣4️⃣ Poor hygiene
Forgetting to bath, change clothes, brush teeth, or use deodorant.
1️⃣5️⃣ Talking nonsense or losing words
Stopping mid-sentence: “I forgot what I was saying…”
Or using wrong words, like calling a spoon a “knife”.
💔 Important message:
This is not witchcraft.
This is not stubbornness.
This is not laziness.
✅ Dementia is a brain disease, and people living with it deserve patience, dignity, and medical help.
