HOSPITAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE INTRODUCED TO MAHALAPYE COMMUNITY

Yesterday, Mahalapye District Hospital management officially handed over members of the Hospital Advisory Committee (HAC) to the community of Mahalapye.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Tshipe Tshipe encouraged community members to actively engage with and utilize the committee within their respective wards.
The HAC is a multi-sectoral committee composed of representatives from various groups, including local leadership, the ministerial fraternal, Business community , the disabled community, youth, women’s empowerment groups, as well as traditional healers.

Following the recently declared Presidential Clean Campaign, staff from Mahalapye District Hospital joined other government departments, non-governmental organizations, and members of the Mahalapye community in a litter-picking exercise. WORLD KIDNEY DAY COMMEMORATED IN MAHALAPYE

Renocare, in partnership with Primary Healthcare and Mahalapye District Hospital, today commemorated World Kidney Day under the theme “Kidney Health for All.” The event was held at Mahalapye Youth Park.
Opening the event, Kgosi Nchingane of Xhosa II encouraged the public to take advantage of the day to learn more about kidney disease. He also urged health workers to engage communities in strategic areas to ensure the public remains well informed about important health issues.
Speaking at the event, Renocare Nephrologist Dr Caverik together with Family Physician from Primary Healthcare based at Moko Clinic, Dr Ompatile Koobonye, encouraged members of the public to regularly visit health facilities for routine health check-ups. They highlighted that kidney disease often develops silently without noticeable symptoms, making early testing and monitoring essential.
Members of the public were also given the opportunity to undergo various health screenings, including tests for cervical cancer and HIV/AIDS.

ANOTHER MEDICAL CONSIGNMENT RECEIVED AT MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL

Yesterday, Tuesday, 10th March, the hospital received another consignment of medical supplies from Central Medical Stores.
The consignment includes:
• Antibiotic eye ointment
• Rectified spirit
• Painkillers
• Anti-hypertensives
• IV fluids
• IV antibiotics
• Insulin
• Mental health medication
• Oral rehydration salts
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Hospital Pharmacy Department during working hours from Monday to Friday, 0730 hrs to 1630 hrs. The public is further informed that the Hospital Pharmacy Department is also open on saturdays from 0900 hrs to 1200 hrs.

BOTSWANA NURSES UNION BRANCH EXECUTIVE MEET WITH HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT

The Botswana Nurses Union Branch Executive in Mahalapye recently met with Hospital Management to officially introduce the newly elected committee and discuss key issues affecting nurses in the district.

The committee, led by Chairperson Ms. Khumo, comprises dedicated nurses from Mahalapye District Hospital as well as clinics across Mahalapye district. The meeting provided an important platform for engagement between the union leadership and hospital management, focusing on collaboration and addressing matters that impact nurses and the quality of healthcare services in the district.

MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL RECEIVED ANOTHER CONSIGNMENT FROM CENTRAL MEDICAL STORES (CMS)

Mahalapye District Hospital on Wednesday received another vital consignment of medicines from Central Medical Stores as part of ongoing efforts to improve the availability of essential medicines at the hospital.
The consignment includes:
Antibiotic eye drops
Glaucoma eye drops
Rectified Spirit
Anti hypertensives
Anti coagulants
Pain killers
Vaccines
Insulin
Oxygen masks
Sutures
Gloves
Hospital management would like to encourage members of the public to:
• Take their medications exactly as prescribed by health workers.
• Avoid skipping doses or stopping treatment without medical advice.
• Visit the hospital or their nearest health facility promptly if they run out of medication or have concerns about their treatment.

MATERNAL MORTALITY AND MORBIDITY MEETING

Health service providers in Mahalapye convened this morning to deliberate on critical issues surrounding maternal mortality and morbidity in the district. The meeting brought together key stakeholders to review maternal health outcomes, and strengthen strategies aimed at safeguarding the lives and well-being of mothers. It also assess current health challenges faced in district.
Discussions focused on improving access to quality antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care services, early identification and management of high-risk pregnancies, and strengthening referral systems across facilities. Participants also emphasized the importance of promoting positive health-seeking behavior among expectant mothers, encouraging early booking for antenatal care, adherence to medical advice, and timely presentation to health facilities during emergencies.
The team comprised health service providers from Mahalapye District Hospital, Sefhare Primary Hospital, and Primary Healthcare services within the district. Their collective commitment highlights a unified approach to reducing preventable maternal deaths and complications, while ensuring safer pregnancies and improved maternal health outcomes across the district.
When closing the meeting, Mahalapye District Hospital Superintendent, Dr Kagiso Tshegetsang applaud everyone for attending the meeting. He encouraged constructive participation and support to ensure desired health outcomes.
