A Positive Message to the Community

My name is Edward Masukudu, and I have made the conscious decision to become the voice of the voiceless. On this particular day, 13 Years Back! In 12 November 2011, I was admitted to Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital for a month, where I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. This experience was difficult, but it was also a turning point in my life. Since then, I have lived positively with this condition, embracing each day with determination and hope.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to not only manage my condition but also to advocate for others facing similar challenges. I have conducted awareness campaigns, sharing my story to break the stigma surrounding mental health. It is crucial that we understand that mental health is just as important as physical health, and living with a mental health condition does not define a person’s worth.

I stand before you today as proof that it is possible to live a fulfilling and productive life with mental health challenges. Mental health struggles are a part of many people’s lives, but they do not have to be faced in isolation or fear. With the right support, understanding, and compassion, anyone can overcome the difficulties they face.

To the community, I urge you to join me in creating a society where mental health is openly discussed, where support systems are strong, and where people are empowered to seek help without shame. Let’s continue to work together to reduce stigma, offer compassion, and ensure that no one ever feels alone in their journey.

Together, we can make a difference and build a future where mental health is valued, and all voices are heard.

Thank you for your time, your understanding, and your support.

Sincerely,
Edward Masego Masukudu

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING
October 2023

Masego Mental Health Organization celebrated World Mental Health Day With Community Leaders Of Molepolole, Village Development Committee Leaders (VDC) gathered under one roof to learn about mental health issues and ways to prevent stigma surrounding mental illness in the community. Mental Health Awareness is commemorated every October. The month is dedicated to create and raise an awareness about mental health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the theme of World Mental Health Day 2023 is "Mental health is a universal human right." Masego Mental Health Organization founder Mr Masukudu said this means to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right.

In this matter, your mental health is a priority, and you are never alone in your journey. He encouraged the Village Development Committee leaders to embrace their uniqueness, and remembering them that in a world where one can be anything, being kind to your mind matters. Together, let's break the stigma and let your mind matters!💚

Mental health advocate & a Community Volunteer Mr Masukudu bringing some arts & sports therapy to Sbrana patients year 2016, the event has been on a pause due to lack of funds but the organization is hoping to bring it back soon as it had more positive impact to both sbrana patients & university of Botswana students. Students were tasked to spend a day at Sbrana and socialized with patients through arts & sports activities. A great initiative that brought a sense of belonging and inclusion to patients and built a great relationship between Masego Mental Health Org, University of Botswana & Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital.

Cheers 🥂 To World Bipolar Day! Meet Masego Mental Health Organization Founder & Director Mr Edward Masukudu Who lives with Bipolar Disorder. Mr Masukudu was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in the year 2011 at Princess Marina Pyschiatric Clinic and he was admitted for a full month at Sbrana Hospital trying to manage the condition, by then he was still a student at University Of Botswana pursuing Bachelor of Media Studies and he had to freeze his sponsorship on medical grounds due to bipolar disorder illness. He skipped a full semester nursing bipolar and went back to school the following academic year to continue with his studies. Due to the care he was given at Sbrana hospital, university of Botswana and family support he managed to go back to school to continue with his studies and finally graduated on 🎓 the year 2015. Ever since he was discharged from Sbrana hospital he haven’t experienced any major relapse & he is confidently and positively living with bipolar & doing mental health talks at University of Botswana and the community at large to sensitize the community about mental health issues & fighting stigma sorrounding different mental illnesses mainly bipolar disorder and depression.

"I manage bipolar because I mind my own business, I sorround myself with positive energy,I reject negativity, I take my meds well, above all I have fully accepted myself! Self acceptance is the best medication in all the sicknesses" Edward Masukudu"
