In addition to scheduled food outreach, we provide emergency supplies and food to those in crisis throughout the week as the need arises. We receive weekly donations of food and attempt to distribute all items including clothing, hygiene and housing, building supplies to those in outdoor conditions, immediately upon donation. Our goal is that each person in homelessness would be cared for with compassion, and kindness being provided the opportunity to connect with local addiction, mental health, detox and housing services.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-

At TYDEL FOODS, weโ€™ve launched a petition because whatโ€™s happening to our seniors in British Columbia is not acceptable - and itโ€™s time people understood exactly why.

This petition lays it out clearly:

1- First - the reality
Seniors are living on fixed incomes that have NOT kept up with rising costs.
Housing is up. Food is up. Utilities are up.
Everything is up.
But their income isnโ€™t.

2- Second - the impact

Because of this, seniors are now:
โ€ข Facing food insecurity
โ€ข Struggling to keep stable housing
โ€ข Living in constant stress just trying to survive

3- Third - the hidden truth
When a senior loses a spouse, they often drop to a single pension.
That one loss can push them straight into poverty - with no safety net.

4- Fourth - the burden falling on community.
Organizations like ours, and many others, are stepping in to fill the gaps - but we should NOT be the system.
We are supportโ€ฆ

5- Fifth - what dignity actually means
This petition makes one thing clear:
Seniors deserve access to:
โ€ข Affordable housing
โ€ข Nutritious food
โ€ข Necessary medications

Not as a privilege - as a BASIC right to age with dignity.

โธป

AND HEREโ€™S WHAT THIS PETITION IS DEMANDING

We are calling on the Government of British Columbia to:

1. Strengthen supports for seniors facing rising costs

2. Improve food security programs so seniors can actually eat properly

3. Recognize and support community organizations doing this work

4. Ensure access to safe, affordable housing

5. Make medications affordable and accessible

This isnโ€™t complicated.
These are basic, human needs.

โธป

SO WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO YOU?

Because this is not โ€œtheirโ€ problem.

This is:
โ€ข Your parents
โ€ข Your grandparents
โ€ข Your neighbors
โ€ข And one dayโ€ฆ it could be YOU

The way we treat our seniors says everything about who we are as a community.

โธป

AND HEREโ€™S THE TRUTH PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR:

Nothing will change unless people show up.

Not online.
Not by talking about it.
๐Ÿ‘‰ By physically coming in and signing.

We need names. We need voices. We need pressure.

Because governments donโ€™t move because of good intentions -
they move when communities stand together and demand it.

โธป

THIS IS THAT MOMENT

You can walk past thisโ€ฆ
Or you can be part of changing it.

Stand with our seniors.
Stand with your community.

Come in. Sign the petition.

Be counted.

Please pray for Paul (63)โ€ฆ.

Due to collaborated efforts from ARH, ER social work team, DR, and Salvation Army, Paul is off to treatment this morning to go and fight for his life back.

Not every situation lines up this quick (36 hrs) , but when God opens a door and says โ€œI want my child backโ€ nothing stands in the wayโ€ฆ

Paul no longer has to sleep under this dryer vent (behind sumas shelter) to keep warm because there are no shelter bedsโ€ฆ anywhereโ€ฆ

I took this picture when we went to go look for his ID together yesterday, he was crying as he explained how he was laying under the vent getting rained on and wanted to give up on life, but today he has hope, and heโ€™s on his way to healing and connect with his creator to find himself againโ€ฆ

Thank you to all who fought for Paul in this process..โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Published findings from a CoRE study examining outcomes following the closure of the Red Deer Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) in Alberta, Canada.

People who use OPS often live with severe addiction and significant social and economic vulnerability. For them, their families, and the public, it matters that publicly funded services measurably improve outcomes and support pathways to recovery.

๐Ÿš‘ This study found that closing the Red Deer OPS was not associated with increased mortality, emergency department visits, or EMS calls among actual site users.

โœ”๏ธ However, it did show a significant increase in Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) uptake among actual site users (at the time of announcement of closure and after the site closed).

OAT is one of the most effective, evidenceโ€‘based interventions for reducing overdose risk.

These findings were possible because Alberta collects individualโ€‘level health identifiers at supervised drug consumption sites. This allowed examination of how people interact with the health system before, during, and after major service changes.

These results challenge commonly held assumptions and raise an important question: If services are not improving outcomes for the people who rely on them most, how should health systems adapt to better support recovery and wellbeing?

I read a new study this morning that I think is worth sharing.

Researchers looked at what happened after the overdose prevention site in Red Deer, Alberta closed. They were able to track actual site users through the health system using linked health data.

What they found surprised a lot of people.

The closure did not lead to increases in overdose deaths, emergency department visits, or EMS calls among the people who had been using the site. At the same time, there was a significant increase in people starting opioid agonist treatment, which is one of the most effective treatments for opioid addiction.

Research like this doesnโ€™t settle every debate, and the follow-up period was fairly short. But it does add important evidence to a conversation that is often driven more by assumptions than data.

After spending years working in addiction, homelessness, and recovery (and having personal connections to this issue) Iโ€™ve learned that there are rarely simple answers.

But one thing is clear: the goal should always be helping people move toward health, stability, and recovery.

That requires honest conversations and a willingness to look at the evidence, even when it challenges our assumptions.

Thank you to all our supporters, donors and sponsors that have walked with us in 2025 and made us possible for us to serve our community, we couldnโ€™t have done with without you.

We had a few hickups and speed bumps, and we were alittle behind with the tax receipts getting out as we have a new book keeper sorting all of this out, but a email has been sent out this morning AND a tax SLIP will be sent in the mail today for you to submit to CRA.

Thank you all for your patience and grace as we work through this โค๏ธ

PHOTO DUMP ๐Ÿค— Jan-Febโ€ฆ

We have been extremely active behind the scenes since the beginning of January, during which time three individuals have been placed into housing, three into treatment, and two more are on the wait list ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™Œโค๏ธ.

Our food outreach team has distributed approximately 1000 hot meals, coffee, and warm supplies to our unhoused friends, while our barber team has been diligently working to put smiles on faces at the shelters we visit every second Sunday.

We have established numerous new relationships with some really cool people at - APD, ARH, and other community support services to provide our unhoused friends with quicker treatment options and more focused recovery care.

Our goal is to motivate our friends to leave their lives of addiction behind and transition into a new life of sobriety.

If you, or someone you know, is struggling with addiction, please do not hesitate to send us a direct message or give us a call. We would be happy to discuss treatment options and develop an action plan to help you or your loved one regain control of their life ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผโค๏ธ.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, friends, followers and partners who make OUR ministry possible to reach those who need it the most โค๏ธ
