So as I sit here waiting to join my first clients of 2023, I wanted to pop on and share a big thank you to those who have supported me in every which way. Thank you to all my clients for inviting me into their sacred space. Thank you to those who share my name with friends and family. Thank you to my incredible tribe who helps me when I need to run.

As we start off 2023, I am excited to see what lies ahead. Let’s Grow Some Love this year!

✨Here’s to 2022 ✨
Hello social media, here I am! Surprise, surprise, still doula’ing along amongst the craziness of life these days 🤪
Truth bomb - I really dislike social media, hence my lack of presence here 🤷🏼‍♀️ I can assure you my presence as someone on your support team is much more consistent and present than what my social media looks like 😉 I am choosing to channel my energy in other columns of my life right now… such as my chickens, piggies, farm house, family, and of course BIRTHS ✨
Thank you to everyone who continues to share my name - I truly believe the right clients for me will find me, even without an active social media account.
Looking forward to some very magical births ahead in 2022 ✨✨✨

🌸 STRONG as a Mother 🌸

Being strong means something different to everyone, especially when it comes to pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Here are a few things that come to mind for me, and what being STRONG can look like:
ꕥ For some it’s asking for help and support; be it trying to conceive, prenatally, during labour and birth, or postpartum (may I remind you that postpartum does not have an end date!)
ꕥ It could be that it takes all your courage and strength to take that next pregnancy test; hoping, wishing + praying to see those two pink lines.
ꕥ Maybe it takes someone’s entire being to make that call for therapy and show up to the appointment, and then to the next.
ꕥ For someone else it’s setting a goal to Breastfeed the first 12 weeks, 6 months, 1st year.
ꕥ For another it’s conquering their induction face on, and surrendering to the process.
ꕥ Perhaps it’s achieving an unmedicated, physiological birth for one person ; and for the other it could mean making it through that epidural process and feeling confident in it’s science.
ꕥ For another, choosing an elective cesarean takes all their strength to move forward with this decision.

I want to know what makes YOU feel strong? Let’s not keep our strength a secret, we deserve to celebrate our strengths, so please share with me! 💪🏼

🦶🏼Baby Toes 🦶🏼

A little cuteness to add to your Sunday! Something about those baby toes that just makes your heart smile a little bit brighter.

This little man is being weighed after his spontaneous home birth. Midwife Cher with has him safely in the fabric sling to get him weighed in. This is usually a great time to capture these cute baby toe pictures!!

✨ Let’s Doula This ✨

I have been a Birth Doula for around a year and a half, and I just attended my 27th birth today. I have never felt so sure of anything in my life, than Doula work. It’s my passion through and through, and there is nothing, NOTHING, I would rather do!

Holding that space for my clients, being that shoulder to lean on (literally + figuratively), doing hip-squeezes for hours until I cant feel my arms anymore, spending many sleepless nights supporting clients, being the calm energy and encouraging you every step of the way, being that number in your phone under favourites that you anticipate calling when you’re in labour, checking my phone 17 times before I go to bed to make sure it’s on.... I could go on and on about what I do and what I love about being a Doula. But my favourite part of being a doula, is watching your family grow.

Whether you are a couple welcoming your first babe, you’re a single mom doing it on your own, or you’re having your 4th child... the moment you meet your baby, that “Holy S**t we did it” moment, the look that Dad has for their partner as they bring their baby into the world.... those right there, are MY favourite moments.

I have the BEST job, I truly do. And I have each and every one of my clients who invited me into their birth space to thank for it. You all fill my soul day in and day out, so THANK YOU!

I recently read “behind every great doula, is a village supporting them” — I could not do this without my Village. My fellow doulas, my back-up doulas, my friends, my family, and most of all my Husband ♥️

♥️ It’s Wold Doula Week — I have never been more proud of accomplishing something, and I have a lot of people to thank in this journey. My number one fan tho, is my husband — if it weren’t for him, I never would have taken the jump, and he supports me day in and day out of a crazy Doula schedule!

Everyday is International Women’s Day in my mind, we run the world 😉 I do appreciate the day to acknowledge our strengths, determination, wisdom + beauty — we truly are amazing, especially when we work together!

I wanted to share something that an amazing woman nominated me for... ME of all people! I have been nominated as a local Airdrie Woman for Determination. You can read about it and vote here if you wish:

Hope blooms eternal – is our theme this year and while at press time our actual awards celebration is up in the air we are hoping to host a garden-party in early summer.

“Our experience with Shaira, in a word: OUTSTANDING.

To elaborate on that further...my wife & I recently hired Shaira as our doula for our first pregnancy, during what's become an unforgettable & infamous 2020 year. Originally being from Ontario and living in Calgary without any other family, the role Shaira played in providing us support, encouragement and positive motivation simply cannot be understated. Throughout the pregnancy, whether we needed advice or just someone to reach out to, Shaira was there - always just a phone call away, on top of her regular (and extremely thorough) appointments to check up on us. If pre-labour services were the only thing Shaira provided, it still would've absolutely been worth it.

That said, by the time we arrived at our labour day, Shaira was a superstar for us - my wife's water broke at 4 AM and Shaira was at our home only a couple hours later; unbeknownst to us, we were about to embark on a 20+ hour odyssey, that was equal parts exciting, scary and every other emotion under the sun...through it all, the single biggest constant was Shaira's presence, providing unwavering support & encouragement. Her approach to coaching my wife thru contractions was letter perfect - in everything from tone to technique. Neither of us could imagine having to go through this experience without her.

Shaira's approach isn't overbearing or intense, but it's not sugar-coated or disingenuous either - she has an incredible ability to blend candid, forthright advice with a remarkable human touch, and it was so very much appreciated from day one until our son's birth. Having been unfamiliar with the concept of a doula before this pregnancy, I can now say without hesitation that I'm a believer in the approach. Furthermore, we cannot recommend Shaira enough - if you're lucky enough to have her as part of your birthing experience, you will not regret it.
