Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics

Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics I’m Stephanie, a Registered Social Worker and founder of Embodied Wisdom. We work in a collaborative way to allow integration to unfold.

I offer somatic, experiential trauma therapy for adults feeling stuck in anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. I am a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant™ and Registered Social Worker. I believe that food an emotions are deeply entwined, and when we get right down to looking at the roots of issues, understanding our nutrition and imbalances are pivotal to creating a healthy sustainable

lifestyle. We can't make good choices if we don't knowhow, or if we believe we can't. I work with people to help develop an understanding of their beliefs around food and finding a way to move toward health in a supportive partnership, not a dictatorship. I love seeing people change their perspective on food, and fall in love with themselves again, it's a true gift to help someone find their confidence and health! I offer a number of supportive services including healthy weight loss & lifestyle group programs, private nutritional assessment, one on one coaching, meal planning, workshops and more! Let's connect if you think you might be interested in learning more about how I can serve you!

Genuinely though.
Singing, laughing, being a little ridiculous in your kitchen... that's ventral vagal activation. That's co-regulation. That's your system remembering what it feels like to be safe enough to be silly.
We talk a lot about the hard work of healing.
And it is hard work.

But some of it also looks like:

Car concerts.
Dancing when no one asked you to.
Hoola hooping even when no one wants to do it with you.
Buying the cozy drink just because.
Laying on the floor with your pet.
Letting your kids turn you into a jungle gym.
Creating something badly but joyfully.
Small. Ordinary. Quietly revolutionary.

High functioning doesn't always mean okay.
Sometimes it means your system got so good at managing that it stopped having room for much else.
Read through the slides if this feels familiar. Full blog is linked in bio this week.

There are seasons where survival gets so loud that joy slowly goes quiet.
Wonder fades first.
Then spontaneity.
Then play.
Until one day you realize you know anxiety really well... but can't remember the last time you felt truly alive.
I've lived this too. And I've learned to pay attention to when joy starts to return. A laugh that catches you off guard. The urge to sing something ridiculous in the car. Orienting toward a spark of light.
That's not frivolous.
That's your nervous system telling you it's starting to feel safe again.
This week's blog is about that return. Why chronic stress quietly steals our aliveness, why joy can feel vulnerable at first, and why the parts of you that knew play and wonder are still there.
They haven't left. They've been waiting.

Something really exciting is happening at Embodied Wisdom. 💛
My practice is growing and I could not be more thrilled to share it with you.
Starting in September, I will be welcoming a student counsellor to the team. We will be expanding into a second office space and offering low cost, sliding scale sessions both in person in Airdrie and virtually across Alberta.
Because quality support should be equitable.
If you or someone you love has been waiting to take that first step, this is your sign.

EXCITED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR STUDENT.... STAY TUNED!

Sometimes the hardest work in the journey back to ourselves is being with joy, playfulness, and wonder.
We know anxiety, we know depression, and how do we make space for something we slowly set aside.
Take the moments, play even if no one else wants to and watch how others join in.
You don’t need permission to enjoy this life. 💛.

Sometimes the work feels murky as you integrate new experiences and your system wants to turn back.
Stay with it.
Because the murky middle isn't a sign that something is wrong. It's often a sign that something is shifting.
Your nervous system is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Protecting what's familiar. Questioning what's new. It doesn't yet trust that the other side is safe.
That's not failure. That's biology.

If you're in that place right now and you're not sure whether to push through or slow down, I'd love to help you figure that out.
Send me a DM and let's talk about what support could look like for you. 💛

Of course! Here's your blog launch caption, ready to go with your Wednesday Reel. 🌿

This weeks blog is live. We are exploring what happens when you don't feel like yourself anymore and the role of functional freeze.
It's called You're Still Functioning… So Why Don't You Feel Like Yourself Anymore?
And it's for the person who is still showing up every day. Managing, doing, holding it together, but quietly wondering when they stopped feeling like themselves.
Not burned out exactly.
Not falling apart.
Just... distant from themselves in a way that's hard to name.
If that's you, I want you to know there's actually a reason your nervous system landed here. It's called functional freeze -- and it's not a flaw, a character weakness, or something you should be able to think your way out of.
It's biology. And there are gentle ways back.
The blog covers:
✦ What functional freeze actually is
✦ Why disconnection is often protective, not a problem
✦ The grief nobody talks about when you've been surviving for too long
✦ Small contact points for beginning to come back to yourself
No fixing. No pressure.
Just a lamp turned on in a room you've been sitting in alone for a while.

What happens when you wake up one day and realize you can't remember the last time you felt like yourself?
Not burnt out. Not sad, exactly.
Just... gone.
Like somewhere between managing everything and holding it all together, you quietly lost yourself.
The cost of holding it all so well.
It's a heartbreaking moment. Because it doesn't always look like a crisis. It looks like functioning. Showing up. Doing the thing.
But inside? There's an ache.
If that's landing for you, I want you to know: that disconnection isn't a character flaw. It's a response.
And it can change.
Drop a word in the comments that describes how you've been feeling lately. Even one word. I read every single one. 💛
