New Website Launch! 🚀💻

I have been working behind the scenes for a bit now to give my website a refresher. It’s officially up and running and is live as of last night!

I’m really happy with how it turned out and hope it gives a great outline of what I do!

There may still be some hiccups of links I missed or other things - so if you see something that doesn’t work – please let me know so I can fix it!

Thank you to everyone for their continued support through my transition into the new space and launch of everything. I appreciate it & your kind words more than you know!

Who do I work with? 🤔

I work with anyone! But I specialize in working with First Responders & Athletes. With my background in Athletic Therapy & sport combined with Physio – I have a unique background and experience to help these populations succeed.

Over the years I have worked with many Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics and other Front Line medical personnel.  I have combined the knowledge and information from each individual I’ve worked with with my background of working in sport to have a better understanding of the demands placed on their body and system – from physical overload to nervous system dysregulation and stress.

Let’s be real. First Responders ARE athletes.

They deserve their own level and type of care with practitioners that understand the variety of stressors put on their body.

I can offer you that type of care and understanding.

Whether you’re dealing with a new injury or you’re trying to prevent injuries.

Let me help you perform at your best and minimize injury risk.

Exciting news!! 🗣️
It’s time for my next adventure - just in time for the start of the Year of the Fire Horse! 🔥

I am thrilled to announce that I have made a change to my practice! I have decided to break off on my own and officially run & open doors to JD Performance Therapy. Don’t worry – I’m still in Airdrie offering the same level of care, just in a different location.

Thank you to the Airdrie community that have supported & continue to support me through it all - I cannot begin to properly express my gratitude!

I am incredibly excited to announce that I am going to be practicing out of ! I have rented a room out of their facility that has a full wall of windows with access to the gym floor for rehab work! I can’t wait to collaborate and work hand in hand with the amazing team that already calls the space home.

Doors officially open Monday February 16th – I can’t wait to show you the space that is slowly (and yet quickly) coming together!

You can find the booking link in my bio. Comment or DM any questions!

Thinking outside the box doesn’t necessarily come easy to us practitioners, especially when it’s outside of the box we have been conditioned to function within.

Can we make up the most creative rehab protocol or pull on the most recent scientific data or talk your ear off about how your pinky finger can be linked to your baby toe? Yes, we totally can.

But ask us to think about where we can grow and expand on how we provide care and practice – we freeze. All we can think of is how to improve our metrics, our work set up, access to courses, our SEO, the latest strategy and data, the best course we have heard of or magically get our charting done for us etc etc etc.

What happens outside of all of that? What happens when we deepen into what we are actually offering people? Outside of the science and the research and the data… We get into unfamiliar terrain and probably territory that feels 😬

How often do we encounter the same problem – time and time again but the same strategy that the latest and greatest paper wrote about just does NOT work!? Racking our brains as to what could we be doing wrong!? How did we not get it right?! Then it becomes an us problem instead of an opportunity to dive into what we don’t think about. What isn’t presented in the literature or on that course… what do people need that we haven’t researched and created a protocol about…?

Does any of this feel familiar? Is it frustrating? Pleaseeee leave a comment or send me a DM if any of this resonated! I would love to discuss more.

I’m starting to work on a new project and I have some ideas of my own but I would love to hear from practitioners and/or those who are receiving care. Is there something you wish you had to help support your clientele outside of the in-person time that you get with them?

What I am looking for are ideas outside the classic box of what we already have in clinical care (or wish we had). To deepen that ability we have to help and guide people through their healing process. To not make more work for ourselves, but to help and bring more ease to what we already do.

I know we can talk about billing, online booking, automatic charting (😂 – if only), clinic set up, exercise equipment, exercise software, more hours in a day, modalities, time frame etc etc etc etc until we are blue in the face. But I really don’t want that to be the topic of conversation here – I want to go deeper and more abstract than what we currently work and operate in.

Any ideas or thoughts are welcome and would love to open up a dialogue around this topic.

If you are someone receiving care and have things you WISH you had access to outside of the time you spend in the clinic, please also let me know! But again, I am thinking outside the box of wanting exercises sent digitally, different booking, time frame of appointments, 24 hr access to your practitioner etc etc.

Not saying that all the regular things aren’t important to discuss and that we didn’t wish we could offer it all or have it all – but I want to think differently here. We won’t get anywhere by discussing the same thing over and over and over and just getting pi**ed about it the things we don’t like. I want to cultivate growth and support and change!

Can’t wait to open this up and discuss!

Thank you ✨🥰

I am so humbled, honoured and damn excited to tell you that I achieved Gold level in the category of best Physio & Rehab Clinic in Airdrie Community Votes 2023.

Thank you for the nomination, thank you for the votes and all the ways you support me both here and in person. ⭐️

Being nominated as an individual practitioner in a sea of bigger businesses & clinics, some more corporate than others was something I never expected or anticipated.  To be right up there with clinics that have multiple practitioners you can vote for under one umbrella and still come out in one of the top spots, means the world to me.

I love what I do & in that I have drastically changed how I approach work over the last few years. Not only has it felt good to me, but it feels like my community of humans is feeling it too.

Congratulations to all the other winners and nominees in all categories!

Can’t wait to see what’s next! 🩵

Meet Jessie, co-founder of Bold Performance Therapy! Jessie is a dual credentialed Certified Athletic Therapist & Physiotherapist with over 10 years of experience in the field. She has degrees in Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy & Physiotherapy with consistent additional continuing education. Originally from Ontario and by way of numerous places, she now calls Calgary home.

She specializes in working with Tactical Athletes/First Responders such as Firefighters, Paramedics & Police Officers, strength athletes & athletes as a whole.

Over the years she has worked in a variety of settings and aims to bring a different perspective and approach into the realm of rehab, prevention & performance. She utilizes the evidence to provide manual therapy, exercise prescription, education and functional dry needling in practice - formulating a plan that works best for you.

She is incredibly passionate about breaking the mold of what traditional AT/Physio looks like, especially in the online space. Breaking it down to the basics & taking away the BS, the strictly business approach or the fluff behind a lot of gimmicks you run into.

Current or perspective practitioners can expect to get real-life thoughts and experience regarding what practice can look like – away from the traditional day in/out grind that is instilled in us.

Your safety – does not get trumped by feeling pressured to go into work on a day where your commute puts you at unnecessary risk!! Read that again – your job is NOT more important than your safety!!
If you do not feel safe getting to/from work – Do. Not. Go. ⚠️

Up until just under a year ago, I would do anything and everything to get into work purely for the fear of pi***ng off my boss or angering the people booked in to see me.  I was told in varying ways and places that I just needed to find a way to get there – even when there was a higher possibility of ending up in a ditch than actually making it in. Or it was implied over the years I wasn’t good at what I did unless I made it work under any circumstances.

What I have discovered is that those people booked in – probably can’t make it either.
If they can make it – they will understand you not being able to.
If they are pi**ed – let them be pi**ed… their frustration is not more important than your safety.

Today is the first day where I didn’t have fear & guilt associated with cancelling and re-scheduling. After looking into the weather & talking to people who had been on the roads – I made my choice
Guess what. Everyone understood. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like having to do it and will continue to do everything I can to make it in but will no longer take unnecessary risk.

If you want to further discuss this or any other “expectations” you’re not a fan of - please send me a DM, would love to chat!

10/22/2022

Lower back pain is incredibly prevalent in the Firefighter population. Even if it hasn’t led to time off or an official “injury”, almost every Firefighter I have worked with will express that they have experienced some form of back pain at some point. Most of the time brushing it off as “normal”.

Pain is an indicator that something, somewhere isn’t happy. Even if it’s not long lasting – it can flip into that pretty quickly. Doing your best to manage right out of the gate is the best option.

Some of the many examples of the causes of lower back pain with or without time off work I have worked with:
▪️ Loaded twisting forces with & without combined movements of squatting or crouching
▪️ Decreased hip &/or mid back mobility
▪️ Altered movement & lifting patterns
▪️ General fatigue with poor sleep & recovery
▪️ Moving patients out of tight and awkward spaces
▪️ Prolonged time on their feet, working & wearing heavy protective gear
▪️ New personal protective equipment that doesn’t distribute the force as well as the previous model

First step is to catch anything before it becomes a problem. If we miss that step, it’s always to get you out of an acute painful cycle.
Next - we to determine what the root cause of your pain is and find solutions.

This can look like:
▪️ Adjusting movement and lifting patterns & mechanics
▪️ Working on overall mobility, stability and power with rotational forces
▪️ Bringing different muscles online to help you be more efficient
▪️ Better recovery plan
▪️ Simple and quick mobility routine

Realistically - it’s learning what works for you as an individual.

Getting ahead of the pain before it starts or before it becomes a bigger problem is the best way forward. Your job demands a LOT of your body and mind – preparing and taking care of yourself is pivotal.
