Day 2 volunteer in Madagascar Nov. 2019
A father brings his two years old daughter (look like only about one due to luck of nutrition) come to our volunteer room. Because she has fever for 2 weeks. She almost nonconscious.
I apply acupuncture needles on her and ask father to let her rest while I go take care other patients.
One hour past, three hours past, she still have high fever didn’t reduce at all(usually all my treatment for patients after I apply needles, not more than one hours should start see the result especially fever).
I re-diagnosed her and found out this kid fever can be caused by not clean water, so I re-adjust treatment, let needles keep one more hour. Because the father needs to walk 2/ 3 hours to back home, so I prepared two doses of Chinese medicine, ask him to feed one when he arrived home, another one feed her tomorrow morning when hear rooster signing.( because they have no clock).
Day 3 volunteer in Madagascar
As I busy on patients, I was consultation with a man, then I realize he was the fever kid’s father. So, I touch her head… and she has no fever at all. When I look at the father, he hold my hand with tear on his face. I told him… its ok now, your daughter fever is gone…… he held my hand tie and can’t stop tearing. The translator helps me what he said…... “this is my 4th kids had fever, before this daughter, another 3, they died because fevers.” He thought he will lose this one as well…..
My heart feel so heavy since.
What a simple issue cause fever, which we seldom see it at our country anymore. But in Madagascar still lead little kids to death.
I know I can help by acupuncture. But what it causes from this disease is water. If water can be clean, they don’t need to suffer from this. That’s a heavy job. Helplessness. I need help for best solution for water.
