GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!

One of the important philosophies of Melissa’s Road Race is to give back to the community. Melissa’s Road Race is pleased to work with local charities that benefit directly as a result of the event.

The Daycare Society of Banff is one of the Official Charities of the event. The Daycare Society of Banff is a great choice as a benefactor of the Melissa's Road Race because of their ongoing support of children, parents and families in the region.

Thank You to the participants who have also donated to The Daycare Society of Banff during registration 🙏

And the Official Starter of Melissa’s is…

Melissa’s is excited to welcome Olympic Gold Medalist Cross County Skier, Chandra Crawford as the Official Starter of the race.

In a tradition of having many Canadian Olympic heroes involved with the event, Chandra will start the Half Marathon race, then travel down Banff Avenue in the vintage Open Top Bus to lead out the 5k and 10k races. You may just get to see Chandra at the event site with her beautiful gold medal before the 5K Awards Ceremonies.

Chandra is not just an Olympic Champion, but has a MBA, is a mother of 4, and the founder of Fast & Female, a Canadian charity on a mission to keep self-identified girls healthy and active in sports. And considering that the runners at Melissa’s are 70% female – what a great match!

It's and soon you may hear a distant bugle echo across the valley 🦌

It's rutting season, a time when the elk come alive in one of nature’s most awe-inspiring spectacles.

During this season elk bulls engage in displays of strength and dominance, so it's important to give them plenty of space.

As impressive as it is to watch, these animals are unpredictable at this time of year so remember:

🦌 - Do not feed, touch, or approach elk.
🦌 - Dogs must be on a leash at all times.
🦌 - Stay at least 30 metres away from elk.
🦌 - Avoid getting between male & female elk.
🦌 - Drones are not permitted in Banff National Park.

A relaxing pre or post run activity for you to enjoy...

“The Whyte inspires discovery and wonder when people and the Rocky Mountains meet. Our founders, Peter Whyte and Catharine Robb Whyte, were local artists and philanthropists. Peter and Catharine wished to offer a place where people could gather and appreciate the culture and beauty of the area. We share stories and explore the culture shaped by this mountain landscape.”
