Proud to be a member of the Alpha Group of Pharmacies, who serve many rural communities across Newfoundland.

The Prescription Centre is very glad to be a part of The Alpha Group of Pharmacies. 24 independently owned and operated pharmacies were involved in raising $10,000 which was matched by both the federal and provincial governments. A big thank you to our fellow pharmacies for their support. We had the opportunity to present Robert Doyle from the Red Cross with a cheque earlier this month. Thank you to our patients and customers for their continued support throughout these difficult times.

Yesterday our owner and Pharmacist-in-Charge, Philip O’Keefe, was presented with the Town of Wabana’s Heart of Health Award. This award was presented to Philip and our hardworking team of pharmacy professionals at Family Drug Mart.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Town for bestowing this award upon Philip and our staff - both past and present - who deliver pharmaceutical care to our patients and community. Their dedication has ensured over 40 years of access to quality healthcare in the face of an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

We are proud of Philip’s unwavering dedication to health in his community and to his profession. This award is a testament not only to our team but also to pharmacies across our great province who provide vital healthcare to our rural communities.

Mayor Tobin, Deputy Mayor Crane and Councillor Vokey visited Family Drug Mart this afternoon to present Philip O’keefe & Family Drug Mart with the Heart of Health Award.

Below was the speech read out during the presentation.

It is an absolute honour to be here today to present the Heart of Health Award—an award that recognizes unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to community well-being.

We are proud to present this award to Family Drug Mart, a true pillar of Bell Island for over 45 years.

For more than four decades, Family Drug Mart has been more than just a pharmacy. They’ve been a source of trusted health care, a place of comfort, and a familiar face to so many residents. Whether it’s filling a prescription, offering expert advice, or simply checking in on a customer—they always go the extra mile.

Their team puts the health and wellness of their customers above all else, treating each person who walks through their doors like family. That level of care can’t be taught—it comes from the heart.

But their impact doesn’t stop there. Family Drug Mart continuously gives back to our community, supporting local initiatives, events, and organizations that help make Bell Island a better place for everyone.

Their years of service, dedication, and compassion truly make them the heart of health in our community.

Please join us in congratulating Family Drug Mart on this well-deserved honour.

Thank you, and congratulations!

As Pharmacy Appreciation Month comes to a close, we would like to recognize the exceptional contributions of our Pharmacy Teams at Family Drug Mart’s Bell Island and St. John’s locations.

Ensuring continuity of care when many members of our communities lack access to a primary healthcare provider is a task they wholeheartedly embrace on a daily basis. Our Teams’ knowledge and expertise in helping patients to navigate these challenging times is invaluable in our collective efforts to ease the anxieties that many feel as a result of the current state of our healthcare system. We thank them for their dedication and are proud to work with each and every one of them.

Here’s to appreciating the value of pharmacy services and those who provide them - not only this month, but year round!
