I was at a girls’ dinner.
One of my doula clients was there —
and we got to chatting about her partner.
And I said it without hesitation:
💬 “He was the best birth partner I’ve ever worked with.”

But after she left…
another mom at the table got quiet.
And then she cried.
💬 “I feel like I was robbed. I didn’t get that.”

Here’s the truth:
✨ That amazing birth partner?
He did 3 consultations with me.
He trained. He learned. He showed up.

No one becomes a birth sherpa by accident.
And you don’t have to figure this out alone.

I fall in love with the birthing families I support.
Every single time.

I get to know their fears, their dreams, their “non-negotiables.”
I memorize their birth plan like scripture.

I show up on their team like their power matters — because it does.
And when the birth takes a turn,
when the plan we built with such intention
shifts out of reach…
I feel it.

đź’¬ My biggest flaw?
I get attached.
To their vision.
To their voice.
To them.

And maybe that’s not a flaw at all.
Maybe that’s just what happens when you love people that hard.

She looked at me and said:
💬 “I can’t do this.”

And I knew — that meant the baby was near.
That we were crossing the threshold.

I reached for the affirmations she wrote herself.
The ones we prepared weeks before.

Words made just for this moment of fear.
And I read them out loud — one by one.
✨ One breath.
✨ One squeeze.
✨ One quiet “yes you can.”

And then?
She did.
This is what doula care looks like.

Not just cheering from the sidelines —
But walking with you through the hardest moments,
with your voice guiding the way back to power.

I didn’t need to check her cervix.
I didn’t need to ask the nurse.
I didn’t even need to look at the monitor.
✨ I heard the sound.

That deep, ancient, low vocalization that only shows up when the baby is near.
It came from her core.
It filled the room.

And in that instant — I knew.
The baby was coming.

This is the part of birth that can’t be taught in a textbook.
The sound, the rhythm, the raw truth of what a birthing body is capable of.
That’s why doulas matter.

We don’t just track progress — we listen for it.

There was an OB on call.
Loved using forceps.
Even when the birth didn’t call for it.
Even when the birthing person had other options.

So the nurses started hiding them.
Quietly.
Deliberately.
In the name of protection.

Because sometimes advocacy looks like a protest.
And sometimes it looks like removing the tool
that was about to cause unnecessary harm.

These are the quiet rebellions that happen in labor and delivery rooms every day.
The moments when nurses, doulas, and birth workers come together —
not just to support, but to shield.

And if you’ve ever needed a team like that?
We’re here.

He was sitting in the dark.
Lights off. Baby monitor in hand.
Just still.

And when I asked if he was okay,
he said softly:
💬 “I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing.”

Postpartum is overwhelming for birthing people —
but it can be just as heavy for their partners.
đź’› The pressure to be strong.
đź’› The fear of saying the wrong thing.
💛 The guilt of not being able to “fix” what’s hard.

When we talk about postpartum support — we mean everyone.
Doulas don’t just hold moms.

We hold families.
We make space for silent grief. Quiet confusion. Tender moments.
Because you matter, too.

She had it all —
✔️ A night nurse
✔️ A cleaning service
✔️ Family who dropped off meals
✔️ A well-stocked nursery

But she still said:
💬 “I’ve never felt so alone.”

Because support isn’t just help.
It’s connection.

Real postpartum care isn’t just about the doing — it’s about the being:
✨ Sitting beside you when the tears come
✨ Listening to what you’re too tired to say out loud
✨ Reminding you that you matter just as much as the baby

If you’re longing for that kind of care — we see you.

Fate kept nudging me onto this path.

Growing up in a small town in Newfoundland was very different than living in a city and having a family. I was born into a large family and by the time I was a young teen, my older siblings were already starting families. I dont know how old I was when I first started caring for other peoples kids and homes. I only remember that it was expected, we were a village.

When I first moved to Windsor and started my family, I didnt realize the difficulties I had set myself up for by not having family near. I quickly learned that you need people to lean on in difficult times and especially if you are a business owner as well as a parent. I had a very wonderful family who lived next door to us and they were my support system througout my kids young lives. I made sure to nourish this relationship with this beautiful family because I wanted that for my kids.

As my Doula Practice grew and I got invited into birth rooms, I felt like I had been blessed with such an amazing way to be a part of a community. I started to build my practice around pregnancy & postnatal care almost immediately after becoming registered as a Massage Therapist. Once I had been in the delivery room with a family, we quickly became connected in a very strong way. We were building a village!

Years later, I do not go into the delivery room much. I am having a bigger impact on taking care of moms during pregnancy & postpartum.
