🌱 The Carolina Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers with Special Needs (CCITSN)

šŸ“˜ What is it?

The Carolina Curriculum is a play-based developmental assessment and teaching tool for children birth to 36 months who may have developmental delays, disabilities, or are at risk.

It provides families and professionals with a clear picture of a child’s strengths and needs while offering practical ideas to support learning and growth through everyday routines.

šŸ‘¶ Who is it for?

This assessment can benefit:

Infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities (mild to severe)

Children who were born prematurely or had medical complications

Children who are not meeting milestones as expected

Families who want a clearer understanding of their child’s development and support strategies

🧩 What does it look at?

The curriculum evaluates growth in five key areas:

Cognition – problem-solving, play, and learning

Communication – speech, language, and interaction

Social Adaptation – relationships and social skills

Fine Motor – grasping, stacking, using toys

Gross Motor – rolling, crawling, walking

šŸŽ² How does it work?

Parent Interview – families share observations

Play-Based Observation – child observed in natural play

Flexible Sessions – 1–2 hours, can be split into shorter visits

✨ Gentle, engaging, and child-friendly.

🌟 What will you gain?

A snapshot of your child’s development

Progress tracking to see growth over time

Practical strategies and activities to use at home

A shared plan between families, therapists, and teachers

A strong foundation for intervention planning and goals

šŸ’™ Every interaction with our learners is guided by empathy, respect, and connection.

Dr. Greg Hanley’s work reminds us daily that compassionate care must be at the forefront, not only as a philosophy, but as a practice woven into every teaching moment, every relationship, and every step of learning.

Unfortunately, we have also seen the negative impact when professionals do not lead with compassion. When care becomes rigid or compliance-driven, learners can feel unsafe, unheard, and disconnected — and this affects not only their progress, but the integrity of the entire field.

That’s why we are committed to keeping compassion at the core of our practice. When we put connection first, we create safe, trusting spaces where true growth and meaningful progress can happen. 🌱

✨ Here are some of the words that inspire us and shape the way we support our learners each day.

Hey Windsor-Essex friends šŸ‘‹ We wanted to share one of the fun memories we made this summer! ✨ Our little learners brought the classic ā€œGoing on a Bear Huntā€ story to life with a sensory adventure outdoors. Together, the kiddos worked as a team—singing, imitating actions, problem-solving, and diving into rich language experiences. šŸŒ³šŸ»šŸŽ¶

Through tall grass, squishy mud, and splishy-splashy water, each step offered chances to practice communication, cooperation, and creativity. And of course—at the end of the hunt, we finally found the bear 🐻! Nothing beats snuggles with our furry friend and celebrating together with a little treat šŸ

Creating themed lessons like this allows children to connect stories, songs, and sensory play in meaningful ways. A single theme can grow into endless learning opportunities—supporting social skills, language development, and imagination, all while having fun.

✨ Are you looking for fun adventures for your little one? At LCDS, we’re all about getting away from desks and flashcards and getting bodies moving—because a moving kiddo is a learning kiddo!

Reach out if you’re looking for new ways to help your little one grow and learn 🌱

🌟 Meet Jessica from Lakeshore Child Development Services 🌟

Hi, I’m Jessica! šŸ‘‹ For the past 19+ years, I’ve been dedicated to supporting children and families through child development services, with a strong focus on autism services. I’ve worked in many settings—including in-home, clinics, schools, and nature-based programs—and have had the privilege of collaborating with so many talented professionals along the way. Over the past year, I’ve embarked on my own journey in private practice, and it’s been such a rewarding experience supporting families directly.

With a Master’s degree in Behaviour Analysis Practice, I take a natural, play-based approach to learning—because I believe children learn best through play, movement, and sensory experiences. šŸ’”

I’m passionate about:
🌱 Helping families navigate new diagnoses, funding models, and local services.
🌱 Ensuring parents and their kiddos feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.
🌱 Providing one-to-one child services, parent/staff training, and consultation that are practical, functional, and child-led.

At LCDS, you’ll find:
āœ”ļø No waitlists
āœ”ļø No minimum hours required
āœ”ļø Reduced rates for families with limited or no access to government funding
āœ”ļø Free initial consultations to discuss your child’s needs and see if we’re a good fit

Beyond my work, I’m a proud wife and mom of two amazing kiddos (plus two energetic dogs 🐾). As a family, we love making memories, exploring new experiences, and spending time by the water and beach—our happy place. šŸŒŠšŸ’™

✨ Thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey—it means the world. I am especially grateful to the families who continue to trust me with their care and allow me to be a part of their children’s growth. šŸ’›

🌱 Be sure to check out our website and follow along on social media to stay up to date with what we’re doing, gain helpful tips & resources, and of course, share a few laughs along the way. šŸŒŠā˜€ļø

With gratitude,
Jessica šŸ’›
