TB can affect anyone — and kids under 5 are at the highest risk of getting very sick if they are around someone with TB.
✅ Watch for TB symptoms in children:
• Cough
• Fever or night sweats
• Not growing / poor weight gain
• Chest infections
• Less energy / not as playful
✅ Signs of Active TB in adults:
• Cough that lasts 2+ weeks
• Chest pain or pain when breathing/coughing
• Coughing up blood
• Fever, chills, night sweats
• Feeling very tired
• Loss of appetite or weight loss
⚠️ Some things can increase your risk (like diabetes, kidney problems, cancer treatment, certain medications, smoking, substance use, HIV, being elderly, or being a child under 5).
What you can do:
• Keep anyone who is coughing away from babies and young children
• If you’ve ever had a positive TB skin test, talk to your health care provider
• See your health care provider right away if you or your child have symptoms
