We all know that stress is bad for us and this is something we get told
very often. However, it’s all too easy to write this off as being a minor
nuisance or frustration rather than anything to really worry about. We
all get stressed from time to time, right?
In reality though, this is the wrong way to think about stress. While it
is fairly common place, that is not to say that it isn’t serious. In fact,
stress is incredibly serious and can cause severe problems both in the
short term and long term

So What Exactly is Stress?
Stress is what we feel when we’re overworked, when we’re dreading
something that’s about to happen or when we’re generally unable to
relax and stay calm due to outside or inside factors influencing our
thoughts.
But it actually goes beyond this. Stress is a basic physiological reaction
that is designed to help us focus and survive. In itself it is not a bad thing
and is actually rather adaptive. The problem is that it has been taken
out of context, which means the positive effects become outweighed
by the negative.

How Meditation Increases Success
The idea of being successful, or being able to accomplish what you have
set out to do or being able to achieve the state of mind you desire, is
usually associated with words like “persistence,” “patience,” “hard work,”
and “goal-setting”. Meditation most likely wouldn’t even be one of the top
hundred words associated with success. But it should be.
Think about it. If one activity, alone, could improve several aspects of your
mind and your body at the same time, from problem-solving skills to
general creativity to blood pressure, immunity, and headaches, wouldn’t
you think it could greatly contribute to your overall success in life? The
healthier you are and the more empowered you feel, the more likely you
will be to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself.

Everyone experiences the world through the senses: sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. These senses diminish with age, impacting lifestyle and well-being.

Sensory changes can cause problems communicating, enjoying activities, and staying connected with others. People living with dementia are especially impacted by sensory loss.

What are Sensory Activities?

Sensory activities can be used to strategically activate one or more of the senses to help people living with dementia connect with the world around them.

Sensory activities should be soothing and enjoyable. They may include things like gentle hand massages, bird-watching in the sunshine, and listening to music. Sensory activities can be non-verbal; thereby crossing cultural boundaries.
