๐ธ Navigating Marriage Through a South Asian Lens ๐ธ
Introducing the first Collaborator for our upcoming April 5th workshop - Dr. Gursharan Virdee!
Dr. Gursharan Virdee is a mother, psychologist, researcher, and mental health equity advocate who supports adults and adolescents experiencing a range of mental health concerns through an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens. She seeks to empower individuals, communities, and systems to improve holistic well-being. Dr. Virdee has a special interest in culturally responsive assessments and interventions, and her research focuses on expanding the understanding of mental health recovery for diverse communities, specifically immigrant and racialized communities. Dr. Virdee is an international expert in South Asian mental health, with her most recent research - The Roshni Project, a multi phase research and knowledge mobilization project focused on young South Asian women experiencing mood and anxiety disorders. She is the CEO and Lead Psychologist at Spirit of Health, a holistic mental health practice.
"What about me?" This talk will explore this very common question asked by almost every Punjabi Sikh, and South Asian woman Dr. Virdee sees in her psychology practice. Major life transitions such as getting married and having children are leading second generation women to pause and reflect on the factors that have contributed to their over accommodating and over functioning in relationships, being high achievers and not being able to prioritize their own needs and dreams. Dr. Virdee will unpack these factors using case studies and research, and provide recommendations on what attendees can do to work through these issues to begin reconnecting with the self.
