When one of your pets passes away, writing their obituary is a wonderful way to honour their memory. It lets others know how much they meant to you and all the wonderful things you loved about them. Here is the obituary I recently wrote for our family dog Binou.
Binou - March 2009 - April 17/2025 -
The dog who has been compared to a timex watch because he “keeps on ticking” entered into rest today surrounded by his family. At times they were sure he would outlive them all! He will be fondly remembered for his gentle and loving nature and his determination to run away from home, even when he could barely stand or walk! What was most admired about “Beans” was his ability to perfect the doggie paddle over the course of his life, due to his commitment (obsession) with getting into the pool, whenever possible. It always amazed his family when he would show up at the patio door soaking wet after finding a way onto the deck and into the pool. His boundary collar had to be dried out several times and replaced twice!
He even became somewhat famous in his hometown, when residents would post on facebook that a random golden retriever had made it into their yard! Sometimes they would even post his picture! He was diligent about checking whether his boundary collar was working or not, so he could go on his next adventure. He would casually walk down the road and was so old and ill, that one time when he was found by someone at the park, they thought he was homeless! His family explained that he had been sick for a long time but still had a decent quality of life and wasn’t ready to cash in his dog treats.
His spiral curls were the envy of every woman and his constantly wagging tail was legendary. Even as his family said their goodbyes today, Binou’s tail gently wagged in contentment as they told him how much he had been loved, staying with him until his last breath.
The family would like to thank everyone who loved Binou ❤️
