How to hug a tree.
Pick a tree you’re drawn to.
Big or small doesn’t matter. Trust your gut, choose one that feels safe or welcoming.
Stand close.
Place your hands or back gently against the bark. Or go in for a full hug if it feels right.
Take 5 slow breaths.
In through your nose, out through your mouth. Let your shoulders drop. Let your weight rest a little on the tree.
Notice what you feel.
Feel the texture of the bark. The stillness. The steadiness. Let yourself lean into that feeling.
Stay as long as you like.
Even 30 seconds can help. When you're ready, step back and take one last deep breath before moving on.
