When you obsess about “forbidden” foods, you tend to crave them even more than before — and consequently eat even more of them.

(That’s frustrating.)

To overcome the ban-more-eat-more-cycle, focus on ADDITION, rather than subtraction.

➕Add nutrient-rich veggies and lean protein foods
➕Intentionally enjoy foods you love, in moderation

= fewer cravings and more satisfaction!

When you stress eat, you're using food to solve a problem.

Only it's a problem that food can't solve.

Here’s a wild idea: Give yourself permission to eat whatever you want, but you HAVE to pay attention to why you’re eating those specific foods.

Use it as a learning experience.

Once you’re aware of the trigger, decide what to do about it.

😫 Even when clients know they're stressed out, they rarely think: "You know what I really need? More relaxation. Better coping strategies. A therapist.”

🔍 But stress has health impacts whether you see it or not.

When you eat your favorite foods regularly and intentionally, you’ll likely consume less of them.

(Rather than when you restrict yourself, then overindulge, then restrict yourself again.)

Plus, you’ll feel less spun out and defeated.

"Isn't it just easier to not eat certain foods?"

For some people, in some situations, at certain points in their journey: yes.

But this choice to abstain doesn’t have to be permanent. Once they develop a range of habits, many people can shift from abstaining from certain foods to having them in moderation.

The point? There are different strategies that can help you get to your goals… without making you feel bad along the way.

One of the most damaging myths in the fitness industry is that getting in shape has to require a huge lifestyle change...

Fact is, you’ve already built a lot of healthy habits, even if you don’t realize it. 👏

Rather than ban the foods you love (and feel grumpy and deprived), embrace the subtle art of eating in moderation.

Think of it as the middle way between rigid restriction and “anything goes.”

Here’s how:

🍎Work towards consuming 70-90% of your calories from minimally-processed whole foods.

🍪Think of the remaining 10-30% as discretionary calories. It could be 🍕🍩🍷or anything else that feeds your soul.

Comment your favorite food (or drink) you just can’t live without?

“Intuitive eating is eating whatever you want, whenever you want.”

“If you’re not on a diet, you’re already eating intuitively.”

Or everyone’s personal favorite: “It just means ‘listen to your body’.”

But none of those are accurate. Really, intuitive eating comes down to these principles.

Stress and obesity are more closely intertwined than previously thought.

That’s because stress can affect several systems involved in weight control including:

🧠 Cognition
Stress can mess with your mind, specifically thinking, planning, and organizing, as well as the ability to focus and manage your emotions.

🚴 Behaviours
Stress influences what you eat, how much you move, and how well you sleep. And these behaviors all have their own feedback loops too.

🔎Physiology
It jacks up hormones that leave you hungry, boost cravings for sugar and fat, mess with your microbiome, and increase fat storage.

🧪 Biochemistry
Stress may also impact blood chemical like leptin, ghrelin, and neuropeptide Y, which affect hunger, appetite, and fat storage.

🔄 Weight stigma
Obesity leads to weight stigma which creates… more stress. And on we go.

Eating slowly may be the single most powerful habit for driving major transformation.

Not only can this ridiculously simple strategy help you improve health and body composition, it can also serve as a gateway to other big changes.

Like developing a healthier relationship with food. Or feeling like you’re more satisfied than usual after your meals — even while you’re losing weight.

⌛To do it, see if you can make each meal last a little bit longer than before.

Sometimes, it can be really tough to tell if you're actually making progress on your journey to become the fittest, strongest, healthiest version of yourself.

Because any of the common ways to measure progress — body composition, blood work, and the scale — are prone to false negatives. They can make it seem as if nothing’s happening when, in fact, you’re making great progress.

That’s why it’s important to use other progress indicators as well. So, before you give up on a nutrition plan, consider whether…

🍴 You feel satisfied after meals.
That might be because you’re eating slowly. Choosing fresh foods. Leaving less room in your diet for processed foods that rev the appetite and never seem to fill you up.

💥 You have more energy.
One day, you wake up one minute before your alarm. Your eyes are actually open. You even feel… kind of… happy?

💤 You’re sleeping better.
All of a sudden, you seem to wind down an hour before bedtime without a problem. You follow your sleep ritual and conk out easier than ever.

🏃You feel great.
And you’re making friends with your body shape and size.

😃You’re in a better mood.
More confident, like change is possible.

💪 You’re stronger and have more endurance.
Maybe you start to notice your muscles aren’t as sore, you can do more work overall, and you’re fresher and recover better.

✨It feels more like a lifestyle.
You’re just… living. You’re in a nice, natural normal-day rhythm that doesn’t feel like being “on” or “off” anything.

Each of these progress indicators can show you real, meaningful change.
