Life’s busy, lots going on!
I’m trying to remember this is when I need my practise the most…

I’m extremely thankful for the land I call home.
Being able to walk outside and feel the sunshine, feel the breeze and connect with nature.

First held inversions in over a year…

My cold plunge has moved back to the local lake….wild swimming for the season has begun ❤️❤️❤️❤️

If anyone is in the Kelso area and wants to join me for my daily plunge/swim- please reach out.
No experience, don’t worry, we’ll go through it together and I’ll work with you on breath work.

Feels around 10 degrees Celsius, but I’ll bring my thermometer next time.

Twirling….yes like what you did as a child…

Did you know that this can be a form of meditation?

The Sufi’s had a method of meditation referred to as whirling - most famously practised by Whirling Dervishes.

This winter I was reintroduced to this beloved childhood pastime and have challenged myself, once a month, to practise this dynamic

Check out these new blankets for this weekend’s class.

When meditating, it is important to keep a blanket nearby. Often, practitioners notice getting chills.

This is because when meditating, you are activating the parasympathetic nervous system which allows the body to enter “regeneration” mode, which has physiological changes such as dropping body temperature, slowed heart and breathing rate, lowered blood pressure, etc.

It’s great to see researchers getting curious about yogic protocols.

There is lots of research which has been going into breath work and relaxation techniques, which have been proven to help with focus, stress reduction and mindfulness.

Andrew Huberman from Huberman Labs
discusses many free protocols to help with significantly increasing dopamine and cognitive performance in this podcast and one of the protocols is Yoga Nidra!

“There are many ways to increase dopamine (pharmacologically, etc) and yes by certain supplements, such as L-tyrosine BUT, it turns out there’s a simple zero cost behavioral protocol that has been shown (through PET brain imaging) to both significantly increase dopamine levels and in separate studies, to improve certain forms of cognition.
The protocol involves a self-directed, deliberate muscular and facial relaxation, and long exhale breathing etc. The traditional form of this is called Yoga Nidra. A few years ago I (Huberman) coined the term NSDR - for ’non-sleep deep rest’, which is essentially the same thing, but does not involve intentions and the protocols tend to be a bit shorter.”
