Congratulations to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Darren de SA, MacSports Research, and the entire global team on successfully completing enrollment of 100 patients for the SQuASH pilot trial!

This study evaluates the effect of soft-tissue quadriceps versus hamstring tendon autograft on primary pediatric ACL reconstruction outcomes. On a quest to determine the optimal autograft choice and "SQuASH" the debate, the trial hopes to help reduce the known high failure rates and increase the return-to-pre-injury sport rates among young, active individuals. This milestone has been made possible by funding from the Physician Services' Incorporated Foundation, the Canadian Orthopedic Foundation, and the collective efforts of staff at Kobe University (Japan), The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, CHU Sainte-Justine, McGill University, and Michael Garron Hospital.

The team is now preparing to expand the study toward a 300-patient definitive trial.🔥🦵

Thrilled to welcome to Dr. João Dinis who is visiting us from Portugal🇵🇹!

Dr. Dinis is a clinical fellow in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at Centro Hospitalar Vila Nova de Gaia/Espinho, a tertiary center in the north of Portugal.

He was born in the Azores, Portuguese islands in the middle of the Atlantic, halfway between North America and Europe, and soon decided he wanted to pursue studies abroad. He graduated from the Portuguese oldest university, Universidade de Coimbra in 2017 with distinction. During his studies, he did a research exchange at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, and 3 months of surgery training at Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium. After graduating, he worked one year as a general resident at his hometown hospital in Angra do Heroísmo, Hospital de Santo Espírito da Ilha Terceira. In 2019, he started his Orthopaedic and Traumatology program.

During his training, he developed a special interest in the study and treatment of hip pathology. It was the search for knowledge and skills in this area that brought him to Hamilton, especially in hip preservation surgery.

Outside the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife and dog on hiking trails, surfing, and practicing CrossFit.

👋Welcome Dr. Dinis, we’re so excited to have you!
