Welcome to JP Wellness & Nutrition

I'm originally from Nova Scotia and moved to British Columbia in 2007. Being far away from home, I wanted to build a life I was proud of and follow my purpose, which led me to Holistic nutrition. I have always been fascinated with how the mind and body are interconnected. They have a powerful relationship between our mental and physical health, where thoughts, emotions, and attitudes can directly influence the body's physical state and vice versa. For example, when you're stressed or anxious, your body may respond with physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, or an upset stomach. If the body is nourished with proper nutrition and adopts positive lifestyle habits, your overall well-being will be balanced. After understanding that a lot of health issues stem from poor food choices and lifestyle, I wanted to change my own lifestyle so I could live a life with purpose and meaning. I love a big, juicy burger!

But in moderation ๐Ÿ™Œ.

Although beef, especially lean and grass-fed, is a wonderful protein source for a hospitality professional, too much can cause uric acid and gout ๐Ÿฅน, and possibly kidney stones!

Red meat is rich in a natural compound called purines.

When your body breaks purines down, they form uric acid.

Normally, uric acid dissolves in the blood and is eliminated through the kidneys.

But when intake consistently exceeds the body's capacity to process, levels can build up, leading to crystal formation in joints (the main cause of gout), or contributing to certain types of kidney stones.

This doesnโ€™t mean you need to eliminate red meat. It means balance matters.

โœ… Rotate protein sources โ€” fish, poultry, eggs, legumes, and plant proteins.

โœ… Stay well hydrated (especially during long shifts and late nights).

โœ… Pair red meat with fibre-rich vegetables to support digestion and metabolic balance.

โœ… Limit alcohol and sugary drinks, which can further increase uric acid levels.

I added finely chopped ๐Ÿ„ mushrooms, spinach, and onions, along with garlic, paprika, and curcumin. To help balance the burger and lower inflammation.

Topped with my homemade ketchup and arugula for added nutritional value.

I can say Im quite full, and ready for my 7-hour shift!
