Shannon’s Transformation: A Journey of Strength, Health, and Self-Respect.

When Shannon first came to me, she was already a competitor—doing bodybuilding shows, pushing herself hard. But here’s the thing: no one taught her the foundation. No one told her how to prioritize health, wellness, recovery, or self-respect.

Fast forward almost four years, and Shannon’s journey has been nothing short of incredible. As a mother of two, a wife, and a business owner, she had so much on her plate, yet she showed up for herself, time and time again. We started slow—just a year of focusing on nourishing her body, finding balance, and building a sustainable lifestyle. That was step one.

Then, over the past 3.5 years, we’ve completely remodeled her body. Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and hormonally. We worked on strength, function, health, hormones and, most importantly—self respect and love.

When I showed her her before-and-after photos, she looked at me and said, “I never want to go back to that.” And she wasn’t just talking about the physical transformation. She was talking about how far she’s come mentally. She’s no longer trapped in the cycle of confusion, burnout, or self-doubt. She’s learned how to prioritize herself, her health, and her happiness, in a way she never did before.

Shannon’s story isn’t just about getting “the body.” It’s about realigning your life, about healing, and about building a relationship with your body that feels empowering, not punishing. It’s about discovering your inner strength and walking through life with more energy, confidence, and peace than you ever thought possible.

This is why I do what I do. It’s not just about fitness—it’s about transformation that touches every part of your life. It’s about learning to love the body you’re in, stop self-sabotage, and build a life that’s in harmony with your goals.

From Bikini Competing to Strength & Life Balance > 12 months apart – progress that goes beyond the scale. Emily’s journey has been all about balance, strength, and sustainable growth. 💪🏼

Starting after her last show in July 2023 we focused on gaining size, we switched things up with a “modified bikini style” training program to build muscle across her entire body. After putting on the necessary size, we transitioned back to specific bikini-focused programming to emphasize growing delts and glutes. Through it all, we made sure Emily’s training supported her adventurous lifestyle—whether she’s hiking, skiing, or traveling, her functional strength remains a priority.

We’ve stayed consistent with a healthy intake at maintenance and a small surplus to fuel her workouts, making sure she’s lifting 5 days a week and getting her 30 minutes of cardio post-workout to hit 8-10k steps a day. The results? Not just in muscle but in overall health. Her body composition has changed, and we’ve learned how to fuel her hormones, metabolism, and well-being for long-term success.

We did a mini cut this year—not focused on weight loss, but on reshaping her body—and now, after slowly increasing food intake, we’ve found a solid maintenance level that keeps her body fat in a healthy range, while keeping energy levels and overall health in check.

What makes Emily’s journey unique is her ability to enjoy life—off-plan meals, treats, and all—while remaining consistent. She’s learned to adjust her intake and embrace the importance of balance, and it’s paying off.

This is about more than just physique; it’s about loving the body you’re in while building the one you want. The data she’s collected along the way? It’s a tool, not just a measurement, helping her take control of her body, mind, and lifestyle.

Before working together, navigating social situations like pizza lunches at work used to feel overwhelming for this client.

The fear of judgment and pressure from coworkers often led to choices that didn’t align with her goals.

I understand the ultimate goal for a lot of you is fat loss. But many of you have not paid your dues and your body is not in a place to lose fat.

Can’t keep taking withdrawals from an empty bank account.

Gotta spend time replenishing (AKA maintenance) before you get to go on a shopping spree!

It’s not an endless budget of results!!

Your body is not meant to live at deficit calories indefinitely.

EVEN IF YOU STILL HAVE EXCESS BODY FAT YOU WANT TO LOSE.

You have to take time away from calorie deficit if you want to continue the fat loss process long term over years while also protecting internal health.

Does this mean we gain all of our fat back?

NO. Because we are eating at MAINTENANCE in between.
NOT surplus.

I hope this is starting to make sense.
I see a lot of this when I do nutrition coaching.

Many need to change directions and understand that fat loss is not in the immediate cards.

From skinny-fat and avoiding physical exercise, to stepping confidently into a gym and turning heads👇

For the first 20+ years of my life, I hated the gym. I looked at in-shape people with envy, thinking “how did they get there? Why can’t it be that easy for me?” I felt incredibly uncomfortable at a gym, extremely out of place, and believed that I didn’t belong there. I felt vulnerable and anxious of the perceived judgment from other people 😓

I thought, truly, that I would never be ‘in-shape’. I had no idea how to get there, and felt overwhelmed at the prospect of even trying.

I was stuck in a negative feedback loop in my thoughts and didn’t know how to change it.

I tried going with friends, I tried hiding in the women’s sections, but I still had panic attacks in the parking lots and nothing seemed to work.

I felt like giving up, thinking maybe there was something wrong with me 🫣

But then, my mindset started to shift where I realized the problem wasn’t the gym, it was my mindset and my self-worth. I had to realize that I was WORTH working on, and WORTH the short term discomfort.

I kept showing up even if I had no idea what I was doing, and even if I felt I didn’t belong there. What started out as once a month turned into once a week, then three times a week, and eventually five times a week.

The thing is, many people feel the same way in the gym. Most people feel vulnerable, most people feel like a fish out of water. Everyone starts by feeling uncomfortable 🤷‍♀️

If you’re struggling with feeling like a fish-out-of-water in a gym, I want you to know that you’re not alone! 🫶

Here are two lessons that I learned along the way that might help you:

👉 Even making it through the door and doing 20 minutes of walking on a treadmill is something. That doesn’t mean you failed, it means you got out of your comfort zone, got there, and did something. And sometimes that’s the much needed first step. 

👉 You are worth more than you think, and DEFINITELY worth bettering your health. 

Remember, it’s not easy, but it’s worth it. Don’t give up on yourself - you’ve got this!

If you’re reading this, maybe there’s something to be gained by taking a look at the way you approach your journey, sport, your coaches, your partner, your teammates and/or your attitude in general.

Being able to make healthy boundaries with yourself you’re taking personal responsibility. Which means you’re leaving room for the possibility that there’s something you haven’t learned yet that could make you even better.

It is one of life’s most important skills and attitudes.

If you’re any kind of person who wishes to grow, learn, improve, excel or peak perform, you should care about whether or not you’re setting healthy boundaries with yourself and you’re ready for change!

In other words, being personally responsible relates to a happy, productive life.

It means you’re ready to do what it takes to change, transform, improve or excel, whatever that means for you and your situation.

When you look at the characteristics of someone who’s accepting of healthy boundaries it’s easy to see that they’re the individuals who’ll succeed in life when it comes to health, happiness and attitude.

Doing this is about awareness and the ability to take the gold nuggets from a situation and use them to your advantage.

There’s wisdom in having healthy boundaries with your health.

It means you’re paying attention to other people and the experience, wisdom, skills and knowledge they’ve earned and you’re willing to listen close enough to see what might help you on your own journey.

It can be so hard to tell clients “NO”
But it is a very pertinent part of being a good coach.

This client came to Coach Ashley with poor gut health, high fatigue, poor recovery, inability to progress strength, and inability to add muscle mass.

Now with these issues her goal was to “lose body fat and gain muscle to look more toned”, Ashley had to tell her “NO”

We were not in a place to go into a deficit to lean out, we were not healthy enough to focus on muscle growth.

She had already been in a prolonged calorie deficit, like many women, going deeper into one was not going to fix the issues at hand- and it certainly would not led to a leaner or more musclular physique.

She needed to enter a health phase (Body Prep)

Left side is where we started with poor gut health high fatigue poor recovery ect.

Now the right side tells a better story: gut health is in a healthy state, hair and skin display improved health, energy is improved, recovery is on point. Most importantly- mental health has improved and so has her daily health and wellness routine.

Now we can transition into adding muscle mass…
