swipe to see differences ➡️ ➡️

There a lot of factors that will cause imbalances in your horse, let’s name a few of the potential reasons:

•SADDLE FIT: and unbalanced saddle will cause muscle atrophy and compensation, making it more difficult for your horse to stay balanced underneath you.

•HOOF CARE: an unbalanced trim/shoeing will also cause these imbalances in their body.

•RIDER ERROR: if we aren’t balanced when we ride, they will have to compensate for that.

•FAVOURING ONE SIDE: just because it’s easier for them (and you) to go to the left, doesn’t mean you should only go to the left! They need to be strong in both directions. Do your exercises both ways!

•NOT STRETCHING: please stretch your horse!! We all know how sore we get when we don’t stretch, your horse isn’t exempt from that- they’ll get sore too! If you need help knowing you’re stretching properly, DM me!

*safe and correct stretching is crucial*

•OOPSIES IN THE FIELD: we may not be able to prevent this one, but we can help it!

Let’s get them balanced for the season

A FRIENDLY DENTAL REMINDER 🦷

Sometimes the signs of needing dental work aren’t as obvious as we’d expect, especially if we’re riding consistently, the changes can be so gradual we don’t notice until it’s overdue.

Here are some reasons for regular dental work/check-ups:

✅ TMJ- Unbalanced teeth will cause extra pressure and stress on their Temporomandibular Joint.

✅ Head Carriage- I’m not talking about putting their head in a frame, I mean whether you’re asking the horse to move forward onto the bit or bend either left or right, their jaw needs to be able to move. High points, hooks, etc. will restrict movement of the jaw, making things like bending very uncomfortable, and sometimes simply not possible.

✅ Potential lacerations and ulcers- sharp points can cause lacerations and ulcers in the cheeks and tongue, which are painful and can lead to abscesses if it gets infected.

✅ Weight Loss- More severe imbalances, an infection or a broken tooth can cause pain and difficulty chewing. Which may result in dropping food and/or decreased appetite.

These are just a few, there are several more reasons dental work should not be overlooked.

What are some signs you notice when your horse needs their teeth done? 👇🏾👇🏾
