🌱Spring is the season of the wood element in TCM, a time of renewal and expansion. It’s also a time to attend to the Liver + Gallbladder - and their related tissues and functions.
In clinic, liver/gallbladder issues we treat include:
👿 the emotional aspects of anger, frustration, impatience - and their repression which can manifest as depression, mood swings, and frequent sighing
🍃 wind conditions - allergies, spasms, dizziness, tinnitus, migraines, high blood pressure
💪 the “tendons”: tight muscles, rigid joints, inflamed tissues, neck and shoulder tension
👁 the eyes: dry, red or itchy eyes, seeing spots/floaters
🩸blood regulation: irregular menstruation, PMS, breast tenderness and distention
🥒chest or side pain, bitter taste in the mouth, IBS
At home, you can support the wood element with brisk walks, light and fast cooking methods, using pungent, expansive herbs such as basil, fennel, marjoram, caraway and dill, and sweet starchy vegetables like young beets, carrots and greens. 🦖🪴🥬
