A huge thank-you to Jennifer Dornstauder and the RDP Experience Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing for hosting today’s Alberta Inclusive Sport & Recreation Collective.

We explored innovations in adapted physical activity, including 3D printing and VR curling with Curling Canada, as well as learning about adaptive cycling with Bowhead Corporation and Rocky Mountain Adaptive.

We are grateful for the partnerships that drive inclusion and accessibility in sport across Alberta!

We’re inviting Indigenous athletes, coaches, Elders, and people with disabilities to share their voices through a brief survey or focus group. Your insight will help shape a more inclusive future for para sport.

We are thrilled to celebrate Karen Dommett, the first Director of the Calgary Adapted Hub, on being named to Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 for 2025.

Karen knows sport drives positive social change. Her leadership supports inclusion across every part of major sporting events. Marketing. Sponsorship. Funding. Media. Transportation and accommodation that work for everyone, especially people with disabilities.

Her roots in rural Saskatchewan shaped her belief that all kids should participate together. That mindset still guides her work.

Highlights from Karen’s impact:
• Expanded access to sport and recreation for children and youth with disabilities as Director of the Calgary Adapted Hub
• Coached youth with autism through the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary
• Led the 2024 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary
• Recruited and trained 1,600 volunteers in disability inclusion
• Created a $50,000 legacy gift for inclusive employment
• Supported Special Olympics Team Canada at the 2025 World Winter Games
• Now serving as Executive Director of the 2026 Grey Cup in Calgary

Karen says that when events model true inclusion with intention, perceptions shift and communities grow stronger!

Congratulations Karen. Your leadership continues to move Calgary forward as an inclusive sport city.
