We’re grateful to spend time giving back to a cause that helps support children and families throughout our community. It was such a rewarding experience working together outside the clinic and helping make a small difference for Calgary’s kids.

Today we recognize Purple Day, a global day dedicated to raising awareness for epilepsy.

Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions in the world, affecting over 50 million people globally.

Did you know?

• Some seizures can cause temporary visual symptoms, such as flashing lights, blurred vision, or loss of part of the visual field.

• The brain’s occipital lobe, which processes vision, can sometimes be involved in certain types of seizures.

• There are over 30 different types of seizures, and not all involve convulsions.

• Changes in vision or unusual visual sensations can sometimes be an early warning sign before a seizure.

Wearing purple today is a small way to show support, raise awareness, and help reduce stigma surrounding epilepsy.

Your eyes may not always warn you when something is wrong.

In recognition of World Glaucoma Week, we’re raising awareness about glaucoma.

Glaucoma gradually damages the optic nerve, often affecting peripheral vision first creating a “tunnel vision” effect over time.

Did you know:

- Glaucoma can affect both eyes differently, sometimes progressing faster in one eye.

- Vision loss from glaucoma cannot be reversed, but early detection can help slow progression.

- Risk increases after age 60, but glaucoma can occur at any age.

Protecting your vision starts with early detection.

At Cloudbreak University District, glaucoma assessments require a referral from your optometrist or physician. All appointments and laser treatments are covered by Alberta Healthcare.
