Week 5 was a blast!

We really feel like we are in a groove and understand these kids…. And they are understanding themselves!

They are making connections between what we are teaching and discussing in group to home and school.

In the sensory motor component, we can see strong bodies and improved posture and motor control.

Parents have already bought some of the tools we use at wow 🤩

Families are understanding how and when to regulate.

One more session. We will be sad to see this group go 🙁

Week 4!

We love seeing the kids working together, having a shared experience, laughing and negotiating social situations.

The ball excercise focused on the Moro reflex, which targets anxiety and fear. We all know those kids who are constantly in fight or flight. As well, we are working on those postural muscles which make it easier to sit and engage at school. We are grading our movement by grasping the ball with our legs. All while having fun!

We are starting to think about our WOW Tools for regulation. Each child will have a different set of tools when they leave 😊

We continue to do visual emotional check ins. Lots of tired kids this week because ya know- January 🫠. But they all leave feeling a little more energized ⚡️

Week 3 was fun!

The kids are getting more comfortable and we are having great discussions. They are getting to know each other and being silly. What more could we ask for!

This week’s topic was EMOTIONS. It is important to have a safe way to label emotions and do check ins. Using a visual representation is preferred as it is easier to process and less intimidating.

No emotion is bad.

Every emotion is valid.

Sometimes our emotions can “sneak” up on us.

Understanding how our body feels gives us signals to understanding our emotions.

This!

This was my favourite moment of our session tonight!

We all just finished our reflex integration story where we found our magic box of fidgets.

But the kids all found a box of these suckers instead 😀

They all immediately started pushing them on the floor and popping them off.

The sound was mesmerizing ⭐️

It was a shared moment of joy by all of the kids.

It was unscripted. They all discovered it together and immediately started making this suction noise together.

This is ADHD

What did we do on the first week of our 6 week ADHD program?

- Got to know the kids
- Provided a structure to our one hour program
- Helped reluctant kids come into a space and feel safe
- Did our WOW circuit to assess motor coordination and sensory preferences
- Read a book about growth mindset “The Power of Yet”
- Discussed how we can persevere at things we do not like
- Introduced fidgets as a way to keep our fast brains occupied when listening and participating in a discussion
- participated in reflex integration exercises with a spy story and secured the stolen fidgets!
- The kids got to know each other and laughed together
- We did a calm down progressive muscle relaxation session together
- We ended with a WOW cheer

Can’t wait for next week!

Every day is a great day to WOW!

Communicate & Prepare:
✅Talk through events before hand (who, what, when, where), use stories or visuals to explain new situations like more people or different food.

Set Expectations:
✅Clearly define rules for different locations (e.g., inside voices) and create a simple “good/better/best” plan for activities (e.g., decorating, winter activities) to reduce pressure.

Plan Downtime:
✅Schedule quiet breaks, reading, or music time to recharge, sensory activities, recognizing the season’s potential for overwhelm.
