At The Vital Posture™ Clinic, we focus specifically on the upper cervical (upper neck) region of the spine using the chiropractic technique referred to as NUCCA (“NU-ka”).
NUCCA utilizes the principles of mathematics, physics, biomechanics, and kinesiology to balance the head on the neck, therefore, relieving stress throughout other areas of the body. Our doctors help relieve your pain, rebalance your posture and rejuvenate your life.

Are you suffering from dizziness, vertigo, tinnitus, or hearing loss?
Inner ear disorders come in many forms and can be due to a variety of causes. If you have ever experienced a head and/or neck injury, whether that be a major trauma such as whiplash or concussion, or even something as small as a slight bump of the head, there is a chance you may have developed an inner ear disorder.
The central nervous system, composed of your brain and spinal cord, coordinates everything your body does including the processes that you aren't even aware of. For this reason, interference in the system is found to be the root of many health conditions, including inner ear disorders.
Correcting misalignments in the upper neck can relieve the interference and ensure the signals are transmitting properly, and as a result, inner ear-related symptoms may be reduced or relieved!
Do your feet need a little extra support? There’s no denying that our feet have a tough job; after all, the weight of your entire body is balanced on two relatively small surfaces. If anything is functioning less-than-optimally, it is no surprise that you may experience pain throughout the day. Issues you may experience throughout the body such as problems with hips, knees, and back, may in fact have their origin in the feet. Luckily, there may be a solution!
Orthotics are shoe inserts that are made specifically for your individual feet. Wearing orthotics in your shoes provides a correction to align the bones and muscles in your feet and fix any biomechanical issues with how you move throughout the day.
If you believe that an orthotic may be right for you, we recommend that you see a pedorthist. For more information, please contact our team at the Vital Posture Clinic or ask your chiropractor at your next visit!
Have you ever heard the saying “You are what you eat”? Despite how silly it sounds, it’s the truth! The foods you eat form the building blocks that compose all the cells in your body. If you want your body to function optimally and to feel your best, it is important that you fuel it with all the supplies it needs!
There are three macromolecules that are the basis of everything in your body – proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. There are also certain vitamins and minerals that are essential for various cell functions. A balanced diet ensures that you get appropriate amounts of all the crucial nutrients so that your body can do its job optimally.
Canada’s food guide suggests you fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, one-quarter with foods high in protein, and the last quarter filled with whole grain foods. Try to avoid highly processed foods, trans fats, and foods containing added salts and sugars.
Sticking to a healthy, balanced diet will reduce your risk of disease and fatigue; your body will thank you!
Now that summer is just around the corner, it is likely that you will be spending more time outside! Whether that is playing sports, working from the patio, or lounging by the river, it is important to highlight sun safety. Unfortunately, the sun’s powerful UV light rays can damage skin cells, and too much UV exposure is the leading cause of most skin cancers. Here are some tips to keep yourself safe while enjoying the beautiful weather!
Keep your UV exposure down by spending time in a shaded area rather than in the direct sunlight. Alternatively, cover your skin with clothing when possible and wear a hat to help limit UV exposure. Finally, cover any exposed skin with a broad-spectrum sunscreen before heading outside. Don’t forget to keep your sunglasses nearby – the UV light is also damaging to the eyes!
A common misconception is that you cannot get sunburnt on a cool cloudy day; UV rays still manage to sneak through the clouds! Even if it is not a clear, sunny day, make sure to keep sun safety in mind!
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ), some of the most complicated joints in the human body, enable the lower jaw to open, close, rotate, and slide.
Unfortunately, many individuals experience pain and dysfunction with their TMJs. Damage to the joint can happen by direct trauma such as a car-accident, or slowly over time by repetitive behaviors such as teeth-clenching and nail biting.
Here is where NUCCA comes in! One cause of TMJ dysfunction can be a misalignment of the upper neck. A NUCCA adjustment can relieve the pressure on the nerve controlling the jaw muscles and allow for proper functioning of the joint. It is important to be proactive; the longer a person has a TMJ issue, the more damage can be done.

Thank you for helping us collect shoes for the student at Catherine Nichols Gunn school - 28 children will now have a new pair of running shoes on their feet! We will continue to collect donations throughout the year; stay tuned for our next donation drive in the fall.
As you may be aware, throughout the year we provide support to Catherine Nichols Gunn Elementary school. This school helps children and families who require extra help and provides them with items and experiences that they may not otherwise have access to. This spring, many of the children need running shoes; we will be collecting new and slightly used shoes here at the Vital Posture Clinic for the month of April. Any collected monetary donations will be used to purchase shoes for the kids. Help us put some spring in their steps!
Did you know water makes up approximately 60% of your body? Water plays a crucial role in not only how your body functions but also how you feel. Sufficient water intake helps with your energy levels, brain function, physical performance, and weight management, just to name a few. Many factors influence exactly how much water is optimal for you, some of which include how physically active you are, the temperature of your environment, how much you weigh, and which foods you are consuming. In general, eight 8 oz cups of water per day (approximately 2 litres) is a good ball-park estimation. Cheers to keeping hydrated!
Whether you are reading this post from your kitchen chair, car, couch, or bed, it is likely that you are sitting down. Did you know that the simple act of sitting can actually be dangerous for our health?
We all know that there are dangers associated with activities such as smoking, indulging in too much sugar, or consuming too much alcohol... the list could go on. Few people, though, are aware that something as simple and as common as sitting can also be dangerous.
Studies have shown that sitting too long increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, various cancers, mental health disorders, and even early death. The human body is not designed for us to spend most of the day sitting or lying down. Our heart and circulatory system work better when we are standing or moving in an upright position. Bones and muscles also lose strength very quickly when they are not feeling the stresses of gravity and other external loads.
This is not to say you should never sit down and relax, but it is crucial to understand the importance of getting up out of your chair and moving around throughout the day. Some simple ways to incorporate more activity into your day are to take the stairs instead of the elevator, park your car at the far end of the parking lot, or have a small glass of water that you can frequently get up to refill during the workday.
We look forward to many more decades of working with our wonderful patients!
A common misconception is that upper cervical care, such as NUCCA, only helps with pain in the neck and back. It is important to remember that all parts of our body are connected.
All the nerves in our body either originate from or send messages back to the brain or spinal cord. So, while your hands and wrists may seem like they are far from the upper neck, in reality a misalignment in the neck can irritate the nerve roots that send messages down to your extremities, causing feelings of pain.
An example of a disorder that can often be helped with NUCCA is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). CTS is caused by pressure or irritation to the median nerve which runs from the neck, down the arm, and into the hand. This nerve is what provides both sensation and movement to the thumb, index, and middle fingers.
People experiencing CTS can experience aching or burning pain and tingling/numbness in the wrist or hand, and they may also have difficulty lifting small items or turning doorknobs.
If you or someone you know is suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, encourage them to see a NUCCA doctor, as an upper cervical adjustment could be the solution and may prevent the need for surgery.
Many people train to make their muscles bigger and stronger, but what is often neglected in that process is the importance of stretching. Stretching has several benefits for our bodies. Not only does it improve your flexibility and reduce your risk of getting injured, stretching also can help eliminate pain, improve circulation, and it can help you relax!
An important thing to note before starting your flexibility routine is that stretching should not be considered a warm-up - you should actually do a little warm-up prior to stretching. Get up and walk around, throw in some jumping jacks, or even do a light jog – you want to increase blood flow and get your muscles ready for some productive stretching. After all, one of our goals is to decrease risk of injury, so pulling a muscle while you stretch would be very counter-productive!
While stretching may not always be the most comfortable, we do not want to mistake the productive stretch with feelings of pain. If you are experiencing pain while you are stretching, that means you are going too deep. Stretching to the point of pain will lead to injury and take you off the path to flexibility.
Remember to breathe, and be consistent with your stretching; your body will thank you!
