This week on Mastering Property Management, I sat down with Marty Connelly, Broker and Owner of Connelly and Company Management Ltd.. — a Calgary-based, family-owned condominium management firm that has been serving communities across Alberta since 1980.
Celebrating 45 years in business, Connelly & Company manages over 100 properties ranging from 4-unit townhomes to 200-unit high-rises — all grounded in values of integrity, responsiveness, and community.
Their tagline is simple:
“Your Home. Your Community.”
I asked Marty what that personally means to him.
His answer was direct and powerful:
When managing condominiums, you’re not just managing a building — you’re managing someone’s home. Often, it’s the largest investment they’ll ever make. That responsibility must be taken seriously. He encourages his team to approach every decision by asking: If this were your own home, what would you expect?
We also discussed something that doesn’t get talked about enough in this industry:
Property management is not easy.
Marty was candid — it takes a certain personality. You need a tough outer shell. You can’t take complaints personally. The job is complex, emotionally charged at times, and highly problem-driven. Success comes down to how you manage conflict, resolve issues efficiently, and ensure the client feels heard and supported at the end of the process.
That level of realism is part of why Connelly & Company has lasted four and a half decades.
If you’re in property management — or work alongside condo boards, vendors, or ownership groups — this episode provides insight into what it truly takes to build a trusted, long-standing management firm.
