๐ŸŒ•Mushroom essences are vibrational preparations produced, under lunar influence, from various parts of the fruiting bodies and/or mycelium. The future is fungal: why the 'megascience' of mycology is on the rise

โ€œFungi werenโ€™t seen as their own kingdom of life until the 60s...Fungal taxonomy has been a total mess for ages...Through the middle ages and into the 18th century, people had no grasp at all of it. They thought mushrooms came up where lightning struck โ€“ that you could tell which one was going to kill you by boiling it with a wooden spoon.โ€

โ€œIn east Asia, fungi have been loved and revered for thousands of years,โ€ he says. โ€œIn China, there are temples to the man who worked out how to cultivate shiitake mushrooms. But yes, in the west it has been neglected.โ€

There is such an abundance of mushrooms this year, particularly lobster mushrooms. The loose moss beneath the cedar and douglas fir trees is speckled with bright orange. What's interesting is that the lobster is actually not considered a mushroom. It is a parasitic mold called Hypomyces lactifluorum, that attacks other mushrooms (such as russula & lactarius species) envelopping them completely, altering their appearance from white brittle gilled mushrooms to dense ridged orange 'mushrooms'. The transformation ends up looking like cooked lobster tails growing out of the ground. The lobster mushroom is very meaty with a nutty, sweet smell and taste reminiscent of steamed lobster ๐Ÿฆž When out picking wild mushrooms, it is good etiquette to leave older, larger specimens so that they may drop their spores and reproduce.

Mushrooms, the Last Survivors

๐Ÿ„โœจ"In the wild, mushrooms emerge practically overnight, en masse, a sudden army out of nothing. Such innocents they seem, so close to the ground, fit to shelter only ants and fairies. But they are neither tiny nor powerless: Beneath those charming buttons and listing stalks grow the skinny filaments that make up the mycelium, the vegetative part of the fungus, branching and spreading in a great cobweb inside the earth."โœจ๐Ÿ„

๐ŸŒฟ"How we think and talk matters. Herbalists can choose to say "we USE herbs" or "we work with herbs and with people". I don't like relationships where one party is "used" and the other claims all responsibility for any good result.

๐ŸŒฟWe can say and think- we want herbs to "work" - but herbs don't "work" for us! We are not that powerful. We are lucky if we spend the time, energy, study and reverence to work WITH herbs. They don't work for us. And there is not a magic short cut decoder ring for working with herbs.

๐ŸŒฟHerbalism involves a real personal commitment, and a respect for plants, trees and nature"

"If plant folklore could be symbolized by one image, I would choose a set of hands. Not an old archaic book in all of its ornate beauty, not a basket of freshly dug earth stained roots, not a handwritten recipe nor receipt. But a pair of hands that make meaning from the plants themselves. The information age is upon us as we have access now, with the last 20 years of high-speed internet, to resources previously unknown about or unavailable. To make meaning of the information available and work directly with plants for food, medicine, magic and materials is the present work.

To make meaning with plants is to take them into our own hands, and work with them directly. In flesh and blood, memory stirs and all senses are activated. It is my experience and belief, that all of a plants use from thousands of years of human interaction can be touched upon and felt, if one only takes the time. Everyone is geared to know and recognize and learn plants. Every human alive. It is an innate set of skills that allows us to do so. Thankfully, as our survival has depended on those skills since time immemorial. "
