I would like to thank the entire staff at the McKenzie Towne Animal Clinic, but especially Dr. Marty Lovo. I had to put my 16 year old dog, Gizmo, down the other day. I have never had to do that before in my life, and Dr. Lovo was amazing, as usual. He explained everything in detail and helped me through the process. Dr. Lovo has been taking care of my 2 "girls" for 16 years and I trust him 100%. He knows how much they mean to me and has always reassured me and been very honest about everything relating to my girls. I have never met such a compassionate caring individual - with just the right sense of humor! Thank You so much Dr. Lovo for helping me make it through one of the most difficult things I had to do in my life. I honestly didn't think I could do it, but you were there and helped me, just like you said you would. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Dr. Lovo you are THEE best vet in the world! Sincerely, Gizmo & Gidget's owner🐾

Q: How might social distancing change my pet’s behavior?

A: Dogs that are fearful of people or other dogs might actually be less stressed during walks because everyone is trying to avoid each other. But if your dog is used to going to dog parks or doggy daycare, they might get bored and ask for more attention from you than usual. This is a good opportunity to schedule designated playtime with your dog during the day.

For the safety of our team and pet parents, we now offer curbside check-in at our hospital. Learn more at vcacanada.com

Q: Should you still walk your dog if you’re ordered to shelter in place?

A: You can still walk your dog outside as long as you practice social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from other people. Don’t forget to keep your dog on a leash at all times! If you can’t walk your dog outside, you can provide physical exercise indoors with puzzle toys, playing fetch indoors, or practicing recall back and forth in your home.

If you do need to visit our hospital at this time, please remember to call ahead to book an appointment so our team can help guide you through your visit. #VCACanada

When you arrive for your scheduled appointment, simply call the hospital and let them know you're here. Your pet will be checked in at the curb -- and you'll stay safe and comfortable in your car during the visit!

This is a time of transition for all of us, including your pet. If they’re not used to you spending so much time at home, then you’ll need to help them get used to your presence as you spend more time there. One easy way is to set designated play times throughout the day so they can enjoy your company as they adjust to it.

As we navigate COVID-19, our commitment to caring for life’s greatest companions remains unchanged. If you need to visit our hospital during this time, here’s a step-by-step guide of what to expect.
