January often comes with a lot of pressure to change quickly, decisively, and publicly.
From a therapeutic lens, meaningful change usually looks quieter than that.

Less urgency.
Less self-punishment.
More patience.
More curiosity.

If this year is about growth, it doesn’t have to be about becoming someone new. Sometimes it’s about relating to yourself differently.

What’s one thing you’re releasing this year?

In February 2025, I set an intentional goal to read more mental health and healing-centered books written by Black authors. The original aim was one book per month. While I didn’t meet that mark, I’m deeply proud to have read six (still reading the Pain We Carry).

As Black clinicians, much of our formal training and professional literature remains centered on white authors. Without intention, it’s easy for Black voices, scholarship, and lived wisdom to remain underrepresented in what shapes our clinical lens.

This year, I wanted to read differently—to learn, reflect, and ground my work in perspectives that resonate culturally, historically, and somatically.

I’m carrying this commitment forward into 2026. This is my year in review—one rooted in growth, intention, and honoring the voices that deserve to be centered.

One of the biggest lessons this year was learning to choose trying.
To move toward what matters, even when fear showed up first.
Starting doesn’t require certainty, only willingness.

If this resonates, let it be your permission to begin.

The year may have had its ups and downs. Share this video with someone that was there for you 🇬🇷 🇨🇦

12/27/2025

As the 2025 season comes to an end for this page, I’m pausing to reflect on what this year held:

• Teaching in 2 master’s-level counselling programs
• Providing over 100 hours of therapy at a reduced rate to increase access to care
• Serving on two professional boards
• Transitioning from a sole proprietor to a group practice
• Launching a new Healing Journey Collective website
• Travelling to two new countries
• Developed my own office space
• Welcoming my daughter — the newest (and smallest) member of HJC 🤍
• And grieving the loss of one of the closest matriarchs in my life

This year carried both expansion and heartbreak.
It asked for resilience, presence, and tenderness in equal measure.
I step into rest with gratitude for what was built, and with honour for what was lost.

Merry Christmas 🎄 to those celebrating.
And care for those for whom today feels heavy, quiet, or complicated.

Christmas doesn’t land the same way for everyone. For many, the holiday season can bring mixed emotions, grief, stress, or a need for rest. If you’re navigating holiday mental health, emotional overwhelm, or simply choosing a quieter Christmas, you are allowed to honor what you need.

At Healing Journey Collective, we believe mental health care during the holidays starts with compassion and permission. Whether you’re celebrating fully, opting out, or staying in bed today, your nervous system matters more than tradition.

However this day meets you, may care come first 🤍

From our homes to your hearts, Merry Christmas even if Christmas isn’t quite the same 🤍🎄

The holidays can be meaningful and connecting, and they can also be deeply taxing.
For therapists, it’s easy to move straight into the new year by pushing through and pretending we’re “fine.” But our ability to show up well for clients depends on our own recovery too.

After the holiday season, I intentionally create space to rest, regulate, and recoup. Not as a luxury, but as an ethical and necessary part of doing this work well. When therapists care for themselves, everyone benefits.

If you’re in a helping role, consider this your permission to pause before you push forward.

The holidays can bring joy, connection, and also a lot of pressure.
Even the strongest couples feel it.

These reminders aren’t about doing relationships perfectly.
They’re about staying connected when stress is high and expectations are heavy.

Most of us, myself included, have been guilty of at least one of these at some point.
Gentle awareness can go a long way this season.

Save this post for the moments when holiday stress starts to impact your relationship and you need a quick reminder to pause, soften, and reconnect.

Which reminder feels most important for you and your partner right now?

Had to jump on this trend because it’s so good!
This cake isn’t about perfection.
It’s about progress.

These are some of my wins too.
Starting therapy.
Stopping waiting to feel ready.
Asking for help instead of pushing through.
Setting boundaries without apologizing.
Choosing rest when guilt tried to take over.
Staying present during hard emotions.
Keeping going even when it felt uncomfortable.

Healing doesn’t happen in one big moment.
It happens in small, brave choices that add up over time.

If you’re at the beginning, or somewhere in the middle, your effort counts. Did any of these resonated with you?
