Happy one year anniversary MVC!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the gift basket MVC from Titan🐶, Tia🐶, Lola😺 and Tao😺 (pictured)🙏 Mom and Dad enjoyed attending your open house and we all look forward to you taking care of us for a long time😀
Saw your facility today, hands down most beautiful vet clinic I've ever seen and I've seen LOTS! Congrats and kudos to the designer

At Mahogany Veterinary Clinic we believe in excellent quality medical care with options for your furry family members.

Operating as usual

Is there a better way to end a long day than with two baby dachshunds? Lola (black and tan) and Peanut (tan) did great for their first visit!

[08/31/20]   We will be closed Saturday Sept 5 through Monday Sept 7. Have a great Labour Day everyone!

It's that time of year again! Each year we see cases of our furry friends ingesting these nasty little foxtails and getting them stuck in their mouth/throat and tonsilar crypts. They can also become embedded in paws. Make sure you clear your yard of these pesky things to save your pet from a minor surgical procedure!!

Huge congratulations to Dr. Atkinson (now Dr. Hilton!) on her COVID wedding. Best wishes from all of us at Mahogany Veterinary Clinic.

Tick season is considered to be from April to October, however ticks can be active in temperatures as low as 4 degrees celsius. It is important to think of every season as tick season.

Contact your veterinarian if you have questions relating to tick prevention, checking your pet for ticks, lyme disease, or if you require assistance in removal.

Today, World Veterinary Day, is an opportunity to recognize the contributions veterinary professionals make to the health and welfare of animals and society. This year's theme is ‘Environmental protection for improving animal and human health’. In the midst of the current public health crisis, the connection between human health, animal health, and environmental health is more evident than ever.

Veterinarians and staff, like people who work in other essential services, have been working diligently to ensure client and staff safety, while continuing to focus on animal health and wellness.

Thank you to all veterinarians, veterinary technologists and the rest of the veterinary team who keep practices operating during this unprecedented time.

Here's an important reminder from one of our FAQ images - Can pets spread COVID-19 to people?

Additionally, there is no reason to remove pets from homes even if COVID-19 has been identified in members of the household, unless there is risk that the pet itself is not able to be cared for appropriately. During this pandemic emergency, pets and people each need the support of the other and veterinarians are there to support the good health of both. https://bit.ly/34bXBJg

Essential services

alberta.ca Business services deemed essential by public health orders are exempt from restrictions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

[03/28/20]   Veterinary Care is an essential service.
Please rest assured that if you are worried about the health of your pet, we are here for you during these difficult times. We ask that if you are unsure if your pet should be seen - please call in to give us some information and we can help guide you through this process. We will continue to be here using our curbside pick up service with Zoom or phone discussions to keep pets AND their people as safe as possible.

[03/16/20]   Dear Wonderful Mahogany Veterinary Clinic Clients,

As dedicated animal health professionals, we wanted to write to you to let you know that our policy moving forward in these uncertain times is to ensure the health of your pets as well as their owners and our own amazing staff.

We will continue to be open for business with the same operating hours (though this may be subject to change), however, we will be making some changes to minimize person to person contact. We will be limiting future elective surgical bookings to try and preserve as many supplies at our distributors for our friends in human medicine who may need them very soon.

Changes to appointments:
1) If you are ill or have travelled – please do not come to the appointment with your pet. Alternatives for this would be a friend or family member that is well and has not travelled OR we can arrange ‘curbside pick up’ of your pet from the car so that it can be examined with phone consultation to follow.
2) We are happy to schedule curbside appointments rather than you needing to come into the clinic. This would entail phoning from the parking lot so that we can go and get your pet from the car. Decisions, recommendations etc. for your pet can then be made over the phone and/or email.
3) Similarly, we will be able to accommodate some pet drop off appointments (though we do have limited cage/run space).
4) If you would prefer an appointment in the clinic with your pet, please limit this to one human bringing the pet in. We will speak with you in our exam rooms but likely bring your pet to our treatment area so one of our nurses can help us with the examination and vaccines so we don’t have to utilize you to do this with us.

Pet Foods:
There is no decrease in supply of pet food currently. We are able to order daily from our suppliers still. We would request that you go to our online portal (please use a computer rather than a tablet or phone) to order your food ahead of time (it can also be paid for online via Paypal or credit card) so that you only have to run in to quickly pick this up without being stuck in our reception area.

Medications:
We would never allow pets in need of chronic medications to go without. It would be easier if you ordered them ahead of time when needed. You can also pre-pay for these on the online portal to speed up your visit.
If you are not placing orders online for food, please utilize email for your requests as this will allow us to be more efficient. We also request that you email for medication refills.

**For both food and medications – we may be able to arrange home delivery – especially for those that are not able to leave their homes due to self quarantine. Please let us know how we can help you and we will do our best to meet all your needs. Please do not let your food or medications run too low. With things being so uncertain, there is the possibility that we may see delays and shortages in the future from our suppliers.

Tumour on Edmonton woman's liver was rare parasite, not cancer

This is why routine proper deworming is SO important - especially here in Alberta.

ctvnews.ca An Edmonton woman had surgery for what she thought was a rare, terminal cancer. She found out later that the grapefruit-sized lump doctors had removed from her liver was a cyst created by a rare parasite.
